I know we covered (see what I did there?) open hoppers awhile back, but I don't think we covered the two-bay covered hopper. What's around? Partial credit will be given for hoppers converted into other uses and extra credit will be given for those unique AC&F 1,790 cubic foot drop frame hoppers.

Ex ACFX (American Car & Foundry), Kirkwood, MO Preserved, NMOT, AC&F
Ex D&H(?) East Binghamton, NY Sand service, static, NS engine facility PS-2?
Ex DL&W/EL Scranton, PA Preserved by the D-L AC&F 1790
Ex DL&W/EL DE/PA either on the ESPN or Delaware Valley Ballast car conversion, MOW service ACF 1790
Ex WP/UP Portola, CA Preserved, FRRS PS-2?

EBT has currently has 9 narrow gauge 2 bay hopers remaining, all but one are derelict in Mount Union.

The RCT&HS has three former Reading Company two bay covered hoppers in Hamburg, PA.

79262 Class LOc – Built in Reading 8/41 by shortening a 1922 built 4-bay open hopper, adding side extensions and roof. Sold to Hershey Foods in 1969 who donated the car to the RCT&HS in 1989.

79787 – Class LOg – 1956 built ACF 70 Ton assigned to National Sugar Refining Co, a.k.a Jack Frost Sugar. Purchased by the RCT&HS in 1991

93533 – Class LOfx – 1953 Bethlehem Steel 70 Ton built for cement service. One of 18 later converted to company sand service and painted yellow with green speed lettering. Purchased by the RCT&HS in 1991.

The B&O Railway Museum web site freight car collection page lists three two-bay covered hoppers:

- PM 20054 (1946, 1958 cu. ft., Greenville Steel Car Co.), which was previously held by the West Michigan Railway Historical Society in Sparta, MI. (See the car's page at the B&O Museum's web site, http://www.borail.org/20054.aspx, and the image below by Dennis Bean-Larson as found on the Pere Marquette Historical Society web site.

- B&O 631204 (1955, 2003 cu. ft., Pullman Company) as seen at the museum web site at http://www.borail.org/631204.aspx .

- WM No.5279 (1941, 1740 cu. ft. capacity, American Car & Foundry Company) as seen at the museum web site at http://www.borail.org/5279.aspx. I believe this qualifies as one of the "unique AC&F 1,790 cubic foot drop frame hoppers".

What happened to PRR 257784 from the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville, IN? There is a photo of it in this RYPN thread - scroll down about halfway:

It did not sell at the ITM auction and a post in above thread dated June 18, 2019 stated it was listed for sale on Ozark's website for $1,500

That was one of the nicer pieces ITM had. Assume it is still at Noblesville to this day?

I was still there as of last October. The paint is starting to flake off and expose the primer, but it still looks pretty good.

Speaking of covered hoppers....has any of the PRR's H30 or H32 class cars survived? These two classes were very specific to the PRR.

PRR H30 255750 (Altoona 1951) is at the RR Museum of PA in Tuscan with white lettering. It's inside Rolling Stock Hall in the freight consist. It has 3 bays so is technically not the subject of this thread, but someone asked.

Bob - You may not know the answer to this, but thought I'd ask anyway. One of the photos listed as being the covered roof for WM 5279 shows round hatches whereas the car obviously has square hatches which you can see in the side photos. I wonder if that particular photo is actually of B&O 631204? The reason I ask is that, from the side photos of the 631204, I can't tell for sure if the roof was cut off making the car a ballast car. Thanks.
