Lucius Beebe [& Charles Clegg's books] (Virginia & Truckee, Central Pacific & Southern Pacific, Overland Limited, Great RR Photos) have some stunning photos of the SP and the V&T taken in the Nevada desrt, circa 1900-1915, by two pioneering photographers: Fred Jukes and Stanley Palmer. It appears that Beebe got the photos directly from these men. Does anyone know what happened to Palmer's and Jukes' photo and negative collections?

My understanding is that all we have of Fred Jukes (1877-1971) early railroad work are the prints that he took along with him and then copied. He had left the negatives behind at some time and when he returned or sent for them they had been disposed of.

Having said that, there are some negatives of commercial work that he did while residing in Elko, Nevada, during the 1920s in the collection of Nevada Historical Society in Reno. See its webpage Individual Photograph Collections I have seen at least a sampling of these photos and they are typical commercial views and ones taken for the local police or sheriff.

I googled "Fred Jukes" and found a Jukes family genological forum. There is a small thread there about Fred Jukes dating from 2000. An inquiry was made there about what may have happened to his photos after he died in the Blaine, Washington, area in the 1960s. The response was that "at least some of his work (not sure about negatives) is available through Whatcom Museum of Art and History in Bellingham, WA."

Checking out the Whatcom Museum's website indicates that they hold some photos credited to Fred and Henry Jukes. Probably an inquiry to the Muesum's photo curator will being back an answer.

Fred Jukes was a member of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society. That probably accounts for the copies of his work being distributed. Fred wrote a number of items for the R&LHS Bulletin including a multi-part article on valve gear. The R&LHS collection is housed at the California State RR Museum and the Museum's website page Library & Collections - Photographs says that the R&LHS photos include works by Fred Jukes

Searching further on the web indicates that the Lake Forest College Library (Lake Forest, Illinois) has a special collection of railroad images called "Paddock Images" that includes images by Fred Jukes. See Digitized Railroad Collection at the College's website.
