Am in need of 1 inch and 1.25 inch 12 pitch staybolt reamer/taps. Need not be in original packaging, although it would be helpful if they still cut accurate threads. Also probably need other tools I dont even know I need yet, so let me know if you have a list of steam tools for sale/swap.

Sorting out ex NY Shipbuilding #17 Vulcan 0-4-0T, which has a few cracked staybolts.

Two thoughts:
First, 1.25" dia. staybolts seem a bit large for an 0-4-0T. Typically staybolts start out small (sometimes 7/8" dia.) and are replaced by the next largest size each time they are renewed, up to a point, generally 1-3/16" for small locos. Any bolts larger than 1-1/16" generally have a reduced body so the bolt bends rather than twisting at the sheet and loosening at or eventually cracking the sheet.
Second, Steve Butler at the Kettle Moraine Railway had some staybolt taps for sale a while ago. Phone 262-966-2866.

Try Tivoli in Vermont and ask for Paul Wheeler. They are very good to work with and are reasonably priced.

The as-built stays are (qty 414) 15/16", (qty 44) 1.125 straight and (qty 66) 1.125 tapered. I think the 1" looks like a good replacement size for the 15/16", but I dont have the 1.125 stays out yet to see what the sheet looks like. I may need a consult before I'd go to 1.25, though I have a message into Steve and he may have the taps.

What size is your engine? Are you geting it ready to run? Where are you located? My son and I have a 40 ton Vulcan 0-4-0T that is close to being restored. We are located in Indiana and may be able to be of some help to you. Let us know and good luck with your project.
