Post subject: Kettle Moraine Railway Steamers
PostPosted: Sat Jan 25, 2003 4:12 pm

The National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, WI is getting two of the KMRR steam engines. One is the McCloud River Baldwin #9, the other is a 65 ton Hiesler. Both were donated to the museum by the Kettle Moraine Railway. They were spotted leaving the KMRR property yesterday.

Does anyone know where the KM's two ex-DL&W steel coaches and ex-CNJ steel combine is going?

If I remember right, the CNJ steel combine is now at the Santa Fe Southern Railwy in Santa Fe New Mexico. The expect to begin using it later this year.

Do we know if the steamers will see use out there? Do they have a place to run them? Is the staff qualified?

I remember is the book "Twight of the Steam Locomotive" there was an ex LS&I 2-8-0 doing some switching there. I know this a long time ago and way before the rules...

PostPosted: Sun Jan 26, 2003 9:13 am

Just found out that what left KM wasn't actually the two steamers donated to the National RR Museum. It was the 3rd steamer, W&OV #1. She's headed for display in Black River Falls, WI.
Sorry for the bad info.

Haven't seen the photo, but supposedly the Madison, WI paper last week had a photo of the L&N business car from Baraboo, WI being loaded onto a low-boy trailer for transport to Black River Falls to be a display companion for the W&OV #1.

Working in Deleware awaiting the new Cheesehead in charge to rehire the two remaining Cheeseheads back on to CATS. Might as well rename it Wisconsin Southern!

Hope they get their act together soon.

Whoah, pardner, settle down. Dave's answer was accurate, just in friendly joshing terms.

Dave is saying that he expects Mr. Butler to go back to Cumbres and Toltec once the new Executive Director of the Friends of the C&TS settles in and the RGRPC completes its negotiations with the C&TS Commission for a new stint as operator of the line.

What happen to the LeeTiewater 2-6-2 #16 that was in kit form? I thought I heard it went to someone in Illinois.

Sorry Peter, I didn't know you were asking the question.

I figured anybody interested would be familiar enough with the persons and situations involved to understand my somewhat tongue in cheek response.

In more concrete terms, Steven is doing some contract work in Delaware. He has been doing contract work while the CATS evolution finds its way. Now a new director for Friends, the new / old operating entity has been named who is also from Wisconsin, thus the Cheesehead terminology.

Hopefully, new agreements to get Steven and Kelly back to work will be ironed out very soon. The railroad is running short of time to prepare for operation in 2003, and sources of funding adequate to complete necessary repairs are not entirely in hand, consequently my encouragement that they get things worked out so everybody can get back to work ASAP.

Given the preponderance of Wisconsin folk involved in management at CATS my remark about renaming it Wisconsin Southern was a tease not to be taken literally. Wisconsin Southwestern would be more appropriate, Wiconsin Elevated Railway even moreso.

If I still haven't made myself clear please contact me offlist and I will try to make it simpler.

So far my sources haven't seen anything else depart besides the steam engine and the two passenger cars reported here on RYPN, but that doesn't mean some things haven't left when they weren't looking. I hope to get up that way soon and check it out for myself. I'm also not sure exactly what may have left before the auction, I've only been keeping track since then.

When you say he is doing contract work in Delaware, is her working with Bob Yuill on the overhaul of Wilmington and Western's 4-4-0 No. 98?
