When you post please give enough identification about the equipment so that we know what you are talking about. We are not as familiar with the collection at the nearest museum or on your favorite railroad as you are.

For example, if I write about the 502 or even the VE 502, most of you won't have the slightest idea what it is without conducting research. If I identify Visalia Electric GE 44-ton diesel locomotive then most have a good idea.

The same applies to railroad names. Most people probably recognize the initials "SP," but what about "P&SR"? (Petaluma & Santa Rosa was a short internrban line located about 30 miles north of San Francisco.)

Even well known equipment may catch someone in a senior moment. Let's see, it's the 44??.

Obviously every message in a thread does not need complete equipment identification. However the first time something is mentioned, please give us a little background information. Thanks.

Agree totally. And I would add, please use complete and descriptive Subject lines. Subject lines like "help" isn't as likely to get me to read the post as is a subject like, "Need help with public transportation from the Glendale Amtrak station to Travel Town". That is probably a bit long, but make us want to read your post.
