I'm sure most of the viewing audience didn't know the difference. Only railroad buffs would. Most viewers are just curious watchers and clueless as to the subject matter.

When people visit our museum (Heart of Dixie, Calera, AL) most are curious about trains, but don't have any knowledge of them or their history. In an area like Birmingham, with its rich history of railroads, having been served by Frisco, Southern, ACL, AB&C, L&N, Seaboard, etc. Birmingham exists because of the railraods, but I would guess that less than 10% of the people who live around here have any knowledge of that rich history. I didn't catch it (yet) but feel good that a production was made regarding what we love. Any information that is the appitizer (sp?) that wets the appitite of "the masses" and causes one more new railfan is great. We all need more good public visibility. That causes cash to flow (tickle) to aid in the next project (or at least keep the current one on line).

I am responding to Richard's posting earlier in this string about preferring coverage of locomotive rebuilding or refurbishment to coverage of their scrapping. I put together a fairly comprehensive presentation on locomotive rebuilding a while back, which demonstrated teardown, structural restoration, and reassembly as well as providing a tour of the overhaul and reassembly of major components including diesel engines and trucks. The program included side trips to several suppliers of parts and equipment, all photographed with their help and cooperation. The presentation got several dozen showings around the Northeast in the time I was doing the programs, including to RRE chapters, many NMRA groups and model railroad clubs, independent railroad clubs, and there were also some showings at libraries and other civic events. But this kind of program never achieves the kind of popularity with the railroad enthusiasts that "pretty picture" programs enjoy, and that is why so few detailed technical presentations get done. Just try getting your local NRHS chapter to let you show a locomotive technical program and you will see what I mean.

For those of us that missed the original showing, and unless you are willing to stay up until 1:00 AM, this show will be rerun on Saturday the 14th of July at 2:00 PM.
