Today is the day 763 leaves Roanoke. Any ideas what route the locomotive is taking? Will it be in tow or on a special car?

Jan, 763 isn't leaving Roanoke today, it's being pulled out of the museum. My understanding is that it is going to East End Shops for more prep work prior to the move to Ohio.

There's a photo of the move out of the museum at Trains Magazine's website Newswire (subscriber content only) by some hoser named Sandy Mitchell........ and don't ask what he was doing in town......... and, yes, 763 was taken to one of the business-car pavillions for additional prep work before further transport.

Sandy,

What are all of the other pieces of equipment in that string of cars and locomotives? And is that a cover on the coal bunker?

The string of equipment is the "stuff" that was behind 763 on that particular track. (all the tracks at VMT are stub ended) From 763 back, it looks like: Celanese fireless 0-4-0, Chesapeake Western T-6, FT B-unit, N&W mail-storage car, Seaboard SW unit, RF&P boxcar, and Pullman "Lake Pearl" . There may be a cover over the coal bunker, but I suspect it is just the way the light is hitting the rear slope sheet. The "pavillion" is now used by NS's Research Dept., but it is the old coachyard repair shed. There is a drop table there if any bearing or wheel work is required. Here is a link to some photos on another forum

Do we have, as of yet, an official statement from Ohio Central regrading their intentions for 763?

Thanks for the "roster" on the move.
