 Post subject: Right hand lead vs. left hand lead

Location: The beautiful piney woods of East Texas
Always wondered and never asked why "most" steam locomotives are right hand lead (right side drivers 90 degrees head of left). Exceptions that come to mind being most (all?) PRR locomotives as well as SRC "Thomas", IIRC.
