ATSF 5021 to be rebuilt for service????

Plus, if they choose, for whatever reason, they can put a known steam locomotive on a freight or passenger train for publicity whenever they desire. A 2-10-4 will haul anything the BNSF want to haul and at speed. It may be that they see it as a useful donation to CSRM and an excellent advertising write-off. If BNSF has it's name and logo in the eyes of Americans every week for a television season, it is going to raise awareness. When the locomotive operates, there will be a connection between BNSF and the television show. There may be a long term structure to this interest, but as of yet, I have not seen any official notice about this even coming off.

Everyone,

If the BNSF really wanted an engine to restore, they still own one in Havre, MT. It is a 4-8-4 with 80 inch drivers, and it is an oil burner.

It is also unique in that it has a home built 7 note whistle on it.

Enough of this Santa Fe stuff. I think it's time for something with a Glacier Park paint scheme to ride again....I just wish it was an S-1....No Belpaire fire box on that S-2...but it'll have to do. Does anyone know if it is roller bearing equipt?

Everyone,

I do not believe that the GN engine in Havre, MT (2584) is roller bearing equipped. IT is in great shape though. I used to visit it when I was a boy and marvelled at it's magnificence.

Now a double header with it and the Santa Fe 3751 would be interesting don't you think?

One more thing,

BN has the facility to completely overhaul the engine (GN 2584) less than 1/2 of a mile from where it is currently located.

Just put in a switch and pull her to the shop.

But if you can get a television network to pick up the tab, you would be a fool to turn down the check. Since BNSF isn't reported to have initiated this "rebuild", a big, juicey 2-10-4 will do very nicely, thank you.
And not to be "uppity", but something other than another Northern would be a welcomed sight. I'll take a Northern in a pinch, however!
