Green UP caboose

Okay Bob, break granted!

I just wish we had an in-service caboose visit our museum once in a while. What you have is a rare occurence these days. In all the years I have been at Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum, on only one occassion did CSX show up with a caboose on their local freight. With a short line now operating the line, that will never happen again.

Great! Thanks for the photos. That certainly looks like it could very well have been the caboose I saw last week near Rockford. I have been educated about the origins of this caboose (and its sister, that also apparently ended up as a MofW caboose for UP.) RyPN has come through again!

Yup, it is on Track 51 at the east end of Yard 5. Bring your camera for snow shots today!

My mind may be failing me but it seems on this thread (I cannot find it) or on an earlier related thread, someone mentioned this caboose may be one of the oldest running pieces of equipment on the UP. The caboose dates from 1944, and while old, I have been assured there are several older MOW cars still in service, including a local flatcar dating from 1935.

Was I dreaming? Or did I fail to wake up and am still dreaming?

Dang, it still has the old plain journals? Or has a conversion been done so that you'll find some roller bearings when you open those journal box lids?

Either way, you have to wonder if the M.O.W. equipment consist will get in the clear ar IRM one day, and, when they get back on the main the next day, the caboose will not be going with them. ;)

Identical trucks swapped ,except with rollers from wrecked CNW bay window caboose, done in Janesville winter of 2009.
