Post subject: Another ALCO 244 PA OIL ENGINE!!!!!
PostPosted: Mon Jan 21, 2002 6:59 pm

Another Alco 244 PA engine has surfaced in the Philadelphia area and is now for sale on ebay with an option price of $12,500.

According to knowledgable people who have seen it, the engine is from a PA.

Eyewitness quote: "This is another 16-244 which is at the old Philly Gear in King of Prussia....it's just like the oil engine in Pedricktown. Has to be out of a PA. I remember seeing it a long time ago when I had to go to Philly Gear."

eBay item 1694062952 (Ends Jan-28-02 12:17:02 PST ) - RAILROAD LOCOMOTIVE DIESEL ENGINE ALCO REAL

Something smells here. This is the same broker that was trying to sell the 16-244 supposedly in Pedricktown. It appeared that this NJ engine was the same engine that was reported at Philly Gear. First he's complaining that he needs to get the NJ engine out before demolition, and now he's saying there's another one in King of Prussia?

Hello All

I've talked to a few people about this here in ALCo land (aka Scranton). Word has it they are one in he same. When I mentioned it a few weeks ago one of my friends said "Oh, the one at the 'Gear Works', thats ben there forever". The several sources I've talked to who are both from the Philly area and ALCo knowledgeable say that the engine came out of a Lehigh Valley RSD5, not a PA.

Seems to be the old line car dealers use when they say "there's a guy coming over in an hour to buy this beauty, so if you want it.....". Still a noteworthy machine nonetheless.
