I have no idea why the "E" word has become a lightning rod for derision, politics, and fear/uncertainty/doubt. But if you look at what it actually _means_, you'll surely find that you yourself are one.

Speaking of California and environmentalism, I was told by an employee that the reason the Napa Valley Railroad repowered FPA4 73 with an EMD 645 and converted it to propane was to have a response to anyone who tried to legislate the 251 powered tourist train into extinction due to the billowing smoke from the Alcos. It may never come to that, but this is evidence that some operators are aware of that possibility and some are taking preemptive action.

Nope, this is again really NIMBY. The Wine Train is a picture postcard of how NOT to get along with your neighbors. Hostile signs along the track. Political blocking of stopping at any wineries along the way. Vandalism in an affluent area. High profile railroad police. http://nvrpolice.com/ They may have played the environment card, but their motive was ulterior. Keep on good terms with your neighbors, and none of them will ask an Alco to not smoke.

Thank you to all who have made comment on the work done to MW#9.
At this point in time I do not want or can not say more about the work. My preference is hardware not words.

Steam is at even more critical point that it ever has been. There is a massive difrence between presivation, conservation and commercial enviroments for steam. In every enviroment the people dedicated to modernising steam face a fight between the difrent views and all the outside influences. All we want to do is to make sure steam can survive into the future with a positive image and beinifits, nothingmore. We apreciate all the suport and help we are given. I do not want the politics, just the opitunity to build better steam locomotives. The need to build a Red Devil or better locomotive is despratly needed in either the USA or UK just to prove where we stand. This is down to the opitunity and money. May be its just a dream but its somthing that could be an aid to getting steam to survive long term in the changing world we live in.

What is (MW#9)Vickie? On a scale of 10 maybe 2, for now she has to be concidered a leason in reserch and development towards the dream of a better steam locomotive.
