Post subject: Need boilers? Rick et al
PostPosted: Tue Jan 29, 2002 7:21 pm

I had the privilege of crawling all over two big 3 drum water tube stationary boilers today at a small family owned furniture plant in the North Georgia hills. They have not been used since 1975. The boilers measure about 16 feet front to back, 12 feet wide, and 16 feet tall. Coal grates are under a layer of firebrick installed along with an automatic sawdust feed system at some modernization which also included an automatic water level maintaining system. The old steam feed pump remains in place as do all the auxiliaries, fittings, gauges, etc. The boilers appear to have been built by the Wickes Boiler Works in 1940.

One boiler was obviously under repair with a couple dozen plugged water tubes. The other had only a couple plugged tubes. Overall apearance of the drums through the cleanouts was favorable.

The boiler house is about 30 X 30 and built of cinderblock. It is located adjacent to a rail line with plenty of crane room in between.

The owner of the business is an obliging and supportive gentleman who I do not wish to have bothered by tire kickers, so I am not including contact info here. He will give them to any museum who will remove them (which will probably require demolishing the house). Anybody who is looking for a good stationary boiler for their roundhouse is welcome to drop me a line and let me know. These are too large for me.
