Remember the 'spirited' GG-1 discussion earlier? I saw this shot of PRR 4918/Amtrak 4916 and thought it needed to be shared as I'd never seen it before. Don't force me to look it up, but as I recall you're discussing two separate G's here. The smash at Edison involving a tie replacing machine involved Amtrak 4918/918; the G shown at St. Louis is Amtrak 4916, which was former PRR 4918. As far as my notes show, Amtrak 4918 was not preserved, and most likely never even left Wilmington Shops in one piece after that photo.

Okay, I looked it up. My notes confirm what I said, and point out that the original G St. Louis got, PRR 4903/Amtrak 4906, went to Dallas in a trade.

The GG-1 at MOT has been under cover for several years now. It is coupled to the P5 prototype under the roof of the Abbott Building and will not be seen unless you go into that building.

I went back and looked again and does appear I got the numbers mixed up. Sorry about that! Goodness knows I've never professed being an expert on GG-1s. I found a really good site which talks about the surviving GG-1s today, which is probably old news to most folks here. A lot of it is old news, period. IRM's GG-1 was repainted in its original five-strip PRR livery about eight years ago.
