Highlights: Annual celebration May 2-4, hoping to fix up the concrete coaling tower to operational; and a proposal to acquire PRR B6sa 0-6-0 60 from Hockessin, Del. for display there......

Renovo, for those of you who don't know, is a small town left over from a former PRR "company town" with a car shop (the name comes from renovating freight cars). The town is a small shadow of what it was, but some of what remains of the shop buildings are now back in use by a private car shop.

Sad that 60's owner and the developer of the Hockessin East property passed away not long ago. He was also a board memeber of the HRCV.

This will be a better life for the 60 if it pans out.

OK, so they get the coal tower operational again. Then what?

Obviously, they get the B6sa operational as well! No matter what her fate, I'd like to see this Pennsy survivor get center stage at a new facility.
Great news.

I'd like to see something done to help that poor locomotive. The one pic I've seen, she sure looks sad.

That loco WAS indeed in sad shape when she was rescued from oblivion--or more accurately, from underneath a highway bridge in the Pittsburgh area in 1983 or thereabouts. The boiler jacket was a pile of iron oxide holding the asbestos together on the boiler. The last I saw of this loco--in Hockessin with lots of paint and refabrication--was still a vast improvement upon the pitiful wreck that was dragged to Delaware. I would argue that Buffalo Creek & Gauley 14 was in similarly horrendous shape at the same point in time, and her appearance today, if not terrific to a preservationist, is at least "cosmetically" acceptable.

Sad shape in an understatement. When I first laid eyes on her I did a double take and I am one of those "the glass is half full guys". I'd like to see her restored a bit more and made to look more proper.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

Reports (I've never seen the 60 myself) indicate that shes about as gone as can be, and still resemble a locomotive. I'd love to learn that the boiler and mechanisms were repairable, but my guess is, that's wishful thinking. Hopefully, I first class cosmetic overhaul will renew the illusion of live Pennsy steam.

For a cosmetic restoration, needle scaling the entire boiler, frame and drivers, replace the darn near gone cab, replace the non existing jacketing and a lot of patch work on the tender, all of which are proper cosmetic repairs, 60 would make a presentable loco for a display. Operations wise, I'd be safe to say, unless you could come up with 3/4 a million bucks, the 60 is going no where under its' own power ANY time soon.

The "restoration" done by 4 States Inc. was limited by the loco's long time and continued outdoor storage and lack of proper facilities to do the work.

The engine looks a heck of alot better than it did when it was sitting on the Hercules Siding before it's move to Hockessin East.

It really was just a wirebrush and paint job, add a light and lettering and that was it. The work was done about the same time they painted their MU's up there for service on the West Chester Railway.

I have pix of #60 taken only two months ago. If someone could tell me how to upload on this thing, I would be only too happy to post them for all of you. It would be great to get her running again, I agree. Then there will be 2 PRR engines running in the US. Lets keep the number going up!!!
