Normally when I read RyPN I do not log in. I have checked and I am still marked up to recieve the threaded view of the interchange instead of the normal flat view. In the past the interchange has always come up as the threaded view regardless of my being signed in or not. This week something changed and I now recieve the flat view if I am not signed in. This includes when I read a topic and click on the topic index icon to get back to the interchange.

I know this is a small thing but I much prefer the threaded view to the flat view. Has anybody else noticed this change? Has something changed at RyPN or, most likely, am I doing something wrong?

Thank you in advance.

John -

Yes, it comes up automatically in the flat view for me as well when not logged in (as I usually do not). I noticed it started this past week. Personally, I prefer it this way as it saves me page-load time on my slow dial-up connection, and I always went to flat view before anyway.

I strongly applaud the change to the flat view. It saves having to continually reset to flat when wanting to get a prompt overview of the current threads. PLEASE keep it this way!
Thanks, Ross Rowland

I don't actually know why it started doing that, but the new version of phpBB 3.0.1. doesn't support MobyThreads or the thread view, so it'll default to what you're accustomed to seeing.

I had surgery Friday, to modify two bones in my foot and repair four tendons, so I am rather spectacularly medicated, just now. I'm hoping on Wednesday or Thursday, with the kind assistance of David Collison, to make the changeover to the new version of phpBB at midweek.

Does this mean only the flat view will be available in the future? Unlike most of the others here I greatly prefer the threaded view.

Get well soon and good luck with the foot.

Same here. Much easier to read and get the sense of things.

The switch to change between flat view and threaded view is still there, at the top of each discussion, right hand side. Simply click on "Thread View" and you'll have the format you like.

Like most of the others, I prefer the change, makes for much quicker browsing. I predict that forum traffic will increase because of it, since it's easy for folks to read the discussions.

I just wish they'd figure out a way to make the forum cookies stick here, I have to log in every time I visit. I'm not blocking cookies, and I do not have to do that on other forums.

Whatever the change, I approve, as I always have to go from thread to flat when I log in.

Can somebody make this work/happen in Mozilla Firefox, darn it?

Once we change to phpBB V3.0.1 the Threaded View switch will go away.

Please, everyone, support RyPN in doing whatever it takes to get on the latest and greatest software.

I work for the Yahoo! search engine, we index the Web like Google, and I analyze the web. The public web is under attack at a scale which is unimaginable. The #1 point of attack is forums and other public pages which have been hacked because they're running obsolete software!

Just yesterday I was looking at a forum at MIT (yes, the university) - they run the same software RyPN does. 80,000 messages in 20,000 threads -- every one pornographic spyware spam. These are automated attacks, and RyPN has been attacked too, but only by the sweat of our moderators does RyPN survive. Obsolete software makes this MUCH harder. So please support them with this upgrade. Don't worry about the threaded view - being on current software is MUCH more important.
