Far from the barren plains of Texas, here on Southern Railway in 1977. An unlikely engine to have ever run again, but it did. Who had the last 10-drivered power in revenue service? IC or DM&IR in 1960? C&S came close, in 1959. Last 2-10-4s were probably on the DM&IR also, 1959? With the newer QJs, 10-drivered power may be around a while.

Super-square exhaust on the runby and the RIGHT way to get out of town! Thanks for posting the link.

The locations are familiar, but I can't quite place either one. The second clip is definitely on a Roanoke Chapter NRHS trip in 1978 or early 1979. Note the Chapter's ex-GN dinette/dormitory 1148 in the center of the train, and observation "Mardi Gras" on the tail end, still in IC colors. We bought the Mardi Gras from New Orleans Chapter NRHS in early 1978, repainted her red in the spring of 79. I was either on that trip or working ground support for it.

Where 610 is making the passenger stop is at Oneida, TN. I rode that trip from Somerset, KY to Knoxville, TN with my grandfather and cousin. I think the next day they went to Asheville, NC. I can't place the bridge shot.

Hasn't Strasburg's Great Western 90 been in continuous service?

Great video - SR green consist, with folks hanging out of the windows and standing on the back of Lookout Mountain. Those were the days.

Too bad we weren't doing photo freights when T&P #610 was reactivated. Lima Super Power with vintage freight cars. Now THAT would have been something to see!

The problem would have been finding 100 or so vintage cars to make it look right...
