As previously mentioned the 765 was disguised as the C&O 2765 during the 1993 excursion season, which was the last year she operated until completion of her most recent overhaul in 2005, in which the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society returned her to her Nickel Plate Road appearance. Although she made a good looking stand-in for a Kanawha, there were a couple of major obvious differences which are the fact that the 765's steam dome is located in front of the sandbox, where was the reverse was true for the C&O Kanawhas. Furthermore, the 2765 retained it's Nickel Plate Pilot whereas the Kanawhas had a pilot like the 2716 in the above photo.

The 2716 ran very briefly in July and August 1996 after the locomotive was leased to the FWRHS by the Kentucky Railway Museum, which had previously leased the locomotive to the Southern Railway and later Norfolk Southern. Although unfortunately firebox troubles ended it's Southern tenure after only 9 months of operation in July 1982 and it remained in storage in Norfolk Southern's Birmingham Steam Shops until early 1995 when it was moved to Indiana. As mentioned before, the 2716 is now back at the Kentucky Railway Museum on display.

What work did FWRHS have to do to 2716 to get her on the road when they leased her? Why was her life so short at FWRHS?
