CSRM has been thinning its collection as well. I believe they are not selling the equipment at scrap value, just transferring them to designated recipient museums.

Does anyone really want to spend that kind of money on a generic project car or locomotive? These have been on the market for at least a month now. Scrap steel prices have fallen at the same time.

Purchased second hand by the DSS&A, later lettered Soo Line. Doesn't look in bad shape. Someone from the Penna. area should look into this one.

I'm really surprised at some of the prices. Hasn't anyone told these folks the market for scrap has essentially collapsed? Ten grand seems a bit steep for a single sheathed boxcar with some extra wood applied, the caboose has even less steel and they're asking twenty grand.

I realize that each group has the right to manage their collection, but it's a shame the MILW E-unit couldn't go to the group in Sturtevant, WI that wants to build a display by the Amtrak depot.

Actually, there are mis-statements in every listing, as they all end with the line "…sold to the current owner" when I'm sure that almost everything was donated… but I suppose that wouldn't look all that good when you're trying to get big bucks for the stuff. I know the WC Ltd. ex Soo Line GP-30 was a donation; WC Ltd. donated it to the Soo Line Historical & Technical Society, which immediately donated it to the museum at Green Bay; the newly repainted shell of the locomotive was shipped by WC directly to Green Bay. To their credit, the SLHTS was contacted by the museum and informed of the pending de-accession, but the society was not able to help in placing the locomotive with another organization. I'm sure the $25,000 price tag likely had something to do with that.

In reality, this is one piece I'm not going to shed any tears over; at the time there were fears that none of the Soo' GP-30s would be saved, and saving the styling was better than saving nothing. Subsequently, CN has donated two complete Soo GP-30, class unit 700 to LSRM in Duluth, and another to the Colfax Railroad Museum In Colfax, WI. The 700 currently runs in excursion service on the North Shore Scenic:

Someone should pay attention to the trucks under this unit; these are ALCO trucks that were built in 1948 and delivered on FA-1s. The are equipped with roller bearings, and I would suspect would also be adaptable to RS-1, 2, and 3 locomotives.

I guess the C-430 from the GB&W and seen with the GP30 in some photos, is not on the offer as someone once reported it to be?
