CNR Point St. Charles Shops burn

Near the St. Lawrence River in Montreal. This was a Grand Trunk. Canadian National facility that had been largely empty in recent years. Long ago, the Grand Trunk built new locomotives there, one of which, GT 2-6-0 713 still exists at nearby Delson.

A machinists strike there and at the CP's Angus Shops brought about Canada's Railway Labour Act in 1904, over 20 years before a similar was passed in the USA. Canadian rail workers still enjoy substantially better labor laws and pay than their counterparts in the US.
