Three cheers for all the folks that contributed to the success of this operation. It really means a lot to railroad preservation to see the two groups working together to make this golden opportunity a magnificent event!

Ya' got that right!
I'd like to see some posts from some of the crews with stories of how it went, humorous happenings, etc. Mark D.

And again I would like to see a post mortem replete with facts and figures about all aspects of the operation - it would be invaluable for any of us considering other large scale intensive events in the future.

Don't forget about some images too! Never saw more than one 2 second snip with one of the engines during the games(I don't have cable), and I watched a lot of the stuff!
Back to my editing Olympics. I'm not in the medal round yet!:)

with 24/7 steam on all three engines (read lotsa hostling--especially in sub-zero temperatures the first few days), getting up at 3:30am for a 5:00 conductor's call, etc, etc, many of us appreciated the last few days to rest up...

speaking to CMO John Rimmasch last night, he indicated that he is preparing 'a report' for posting on RyPN.

for me, working with the folks from NNRy, the 'outside' volunteers from all over the nation and Canada (John Stewart), meeting passengers and sharing the history of the railroads and 'how steam works' was a once in a lifetime experience that i would not have missed.

numerous passengers that had attended the other venues (Park City, Olympic Park, the Ice venues in SLC, etc.) told me that the train/sleigh ride to Soldier Hollow was the best part of their Olympic experience.

Hi Doc;

I flew to Phoenix for a conference that started on Sunday afternoon, and I'll admit that the first thing I did was I poured a bath in my $180.00/night hotel and lazed in it for about an hour. :-) Pure bliss!

While the steam locomotives were really neat, the people made it into what it was.

People, from the volunteers/workers, to the passengers and those who walked up and didn't mind chatting to me on the days I was firing "light engine" at the Heber Depot. The leadership from the top down made the HVRR/NNRR Olympic experience a real treat to behold.

It's funny the things one notices; for me the biggest one was that not only did none of the volunteers/employees uttered what my parents would have termed a "bad" word; everybody built on each others strengths. Very interesting and refreshing, IMHO.

I am sure the stories will come out (mine will, for sure) after people get photos developed, and get time to put thoughts to paper.

Cheers;
