Quite a nice find, and small enough to be a candidate for renewal, assuming it has viable parts. Please tell me there is a Pennsy Q2 back there as well?

OH, but we found the K-M and brought it to Niles Canyon.

Goes to show what you know! The Q2 is in the warehouse in Jersey, along with the GG1's. It's a T1 in the flooded quarry!

There were originally three such locos, BLW/Westinghouse 61130-32, built c.1930 as P&RC&I 305-307. They weighed around 30 tons. Some of the three had battery capability too, others were trolley only. I believe they were 250VDC. If there is an interest I can locate all the specs. All 3 were there when I shot them c.1967/70, but were derelict even then. Likely beyond restoration at this point, but I'd never discourage someone from trying.

Dave,
I am a model builder. I am planning to build an electric loco. I saw the P&RC&I electrics in Locust Summit back in 1963. Last week I found out that one of the electrics may still be in Locust Summit. I went up to look on Monday 11/12/2012 and found nothing. After a few days beating the computer to death I found out it was scrapped several years ago.

I am looking for drawings and or measurements of it so I can work out a good model. I plan to build it in 1/8th scale to run on 7&1/4 inch track gauge. Any help you can supply would be a great help.

Thank you,

email me direct at bgsberk at comcast dot net

The Summit Colliery BW electric is missing! It disappeared over the winter 2012-2013. A road was constructed to its location and it appears it was lifted with a crane as the parking spot shows no evidence of it being dragged and no sign of cutting etc. One of the salvage crew told us they were ordered by Reading Anthracite not to scrap the loco and to leave it alone. Reading Anthracite has a Metal Fabrication Subsidiary located in Frackville. I'm Wondering if RA could have taken it there for a 'Cosmetic Restoration' so it could be displayed at one of their facilities. Their Headquarters is in central Pottsville, and doesn't appear to have any room for a Loco on display(Google Earth look-up). Our group: Brother, Nephew, Friend, and Myself visited the loco last summer and looked it over thoroughly. Vandals cut all the wiring and usual damage to the wood occurred, but the sheetmetal was in pretty good shape. Transformers are gone as is the Pantograph. My nephew has quite a few pictures, from all angles, plus interior shots saved on his computer. I've encouraged him to join this group, and maybe we could get some posted if there is interest.. I'm told this loco has been safely put aside for preservation at another site.

The owners prefer that the exact location not be disclosed at this time.

Reading Anthracite has a few treasures tucked away... and a few more on their lands I hope they do tuck away someday. Interestingly, for a while now anyone who would like access to their land can apply for a recreation pass and gain legal access to many (but not all) areas. I believe this program is still active.

The lost loco has been found! It can be seen on Google Earth at:
40° 47' 19.28” N , 076° 11' 55.86” W
Caution...some other satellite viewers have outdated pictures, and it will not be visible. This sighting has been verified by ground level eye-ball, It is on private property and not accessible for close up inspection! Would need telephoto lens to get a picture. JL

BTW - if you want to explore Reading Anthracite land for yourself, they sell 800 or so recreational passes each year that give you legal access to anything except active mining. Generally these are used by ATV'ers.
