Here's the 113's new whistle in use on "test day" at the New Hope & Ivyland. Photos sent by Ron Muldowney -- thanks Ron! More about CNJ 113's new reproduction whistle can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26948

Dave Haring snaps a close-up of the whistle with his camera phone...

Yup, looks pretty nice up there!

Stephen,
Thank you for documenting and sharing the details of that beautiful whistle.
Is there any chance of a sound bite or YouTube video of it?
I can only imagine it would sound even better than it looks from all the meticulous work that was done on it!

We are hoping that there will be a youtube video in the works in the near future. Joe Fusco produces excellent videos and he was out on line on December 28th. I understand that he is having some problems with his computer and that is why he has not put out any videos in a few months. Check out some of his work on youtube, he is listed under JoMiFu. I have always been impressed with his work. I can tell you first hand that the whistle sounded great. Both Dave and Mike were very impressed with the performance of the whistle.

Ron,
Thanks for the reply! I will anxiously be awaiting the video. Nothing more pleasing to the ear than a steam whistle!

Ron or Stephen, in the third photo from the top, I see the front end of another steamer.....apparently under restoration. I did not see anything on the New Hope site about it. Do you all have any other information as to what it is and what is going on there?

Thanks

It's always amazed me that a bunch of metal pieces can be manufactured and assembled to produce such a sound. Beautiful!!!

Bernie really has caught it! Here is a sound clip of CNJ's Pacific #810 whistle which was sounded on WK&S #65 at the late Steve Wards memorial service in 2002. Steve's wife owns this whistle, and WILL NOT SELL IT.

Everyone,

I wonder when Steve Ward left the whistle at Kempton before he passed away that somehow he knew this was going to happen. Fortunately, I was able to hear the story about how he got the whistle, and that was pure luck in itself. It could have been lost with the rest of the whistles that were removed and scrapped. I believe he was still living when I measured it, so it must have been the God of CNJ history that plodded me into doing it.

Thanks goes to all who made it happen in their own way: Steve Ward, Dee Ward, Bob Kimmel, Jr., Dave Haring, Bill Hessler, Jeff Hosford, Ron and Mike Muldowney, Joe Fusco, Ed Kaspriske, (it was neat making the comparison), Jill and Angel (for putting up with me at the foundry), and finally, Stephen Hussar for doing all the posting. Let me know if I missed anybody.

All that work just to make a little music from the past.

What a beautiful sounding whistle, reminds me of being at Cass.
