Greetings:
We recently received an inquiry from the "Friends of the Harkness Mansion", a Waterford, CT non-profit group, which is interested learning in the fate of the Private Car "PELHAM", built for Edward Steven Harkness by Pullman in 1917 (lot No. 4512, floor plan 3342).
Harkness (who died in 1940) was a director of a number of railroads including the New York Central and the Union Pacific.
The last information that the group has on the car is that it was serviced in Los Angeles, CA in 1952 by either the SP or UP and was possibly owned by one (or both) of them.

If the "Pelham" cannot be found there is another Harkness car that is also of interest. Old Smoky Railway Museum in Knoxville, TN has the "Seminole" (Pullman 1915 lot 4358, plan 2892) which was built for A K Macomber and his wife who was Myrtle Harkness. The car sits unused and unattended getting worse by the day.
