Good editorial on the much-troubled restoration of service of the Northwestern Pacific in California. Might be some information usable by others here:

Good editorial!
It's not to believe with the amount of shortsightedness inherent in projects like this. You would think that a deep water port and developable industrial land would be a no-brainer. As a classic example I cite; Local politicians from Lorain County, OH went to Washington for a Save the Steel Industry rally. Roughly half of the officials on the bus were dead set against opening up competitive rail service for the steel plant less than two years ago. Very few of these folks realize when you try to attract industry to your area the package of transportation availability is very important. In a "blighted"(official definition) area you would think they would be interested. All they are really good at is whining after the jobs leave.
