Post subject: Narrow Gauge Porter from Jacksonville, FL
PostPosted: Mon Mar 11, 2002 11:50 am

Anybody got the scoop on the narrow gauge 0-4-0 saddletanker the Jacksonville NRHS had. It is a 1911 model and weighs 21,500 pounds. The Porter books tells me it was built for a turpentine company in Jacksonville. The guys from the chapter didn't know much about her other than they had owned her for quite some time. She looks like someone has started to take her apart at one time but has given up the fight. Her machinery is good enough but as stuck as I have ever seen anything. Boiler has a couple of pretty obnoxious belly patches so it is a boat anchor.

Just wondering if anybody knew any more about her.
Thanks!

A complete guess, mind you, but the weblink you reference having to do with the Tweetsie, perhpas it has gone to the Doe Gorge folks, where they run a piece of restored Tweetsie track at the Christian campgrounds there.

I meant before it was moved--sorry! I was wondering about how long it had been there, who gave it to them, ect.

TRhis is tougher than it looks, folks. The only referewnce anywhere close to such a loco is an incomplete listing in Randolph Kean's 1973 "Railfan's Guide to Museum & Park Displays", whic mentions a #9 steam loco stored by the Jacksonville NRHS at the Duval Co., and it is listed as "[e]x Naval Weapons Station (Yorktown, Va)".

I am unable to find a match so far in either the Koenigsberg or the Conrad directories. Is it possible someone has "mis-remembered" the pertinent information?

I think that Number 9 is a standard gauge 0-4-0 that was sold to a guy in North Carolina. She was moved the same day as the little one.
