Saturday, May 23rd

Phoenicia

Saturday, May 23rd will be opening day for the 2009 operating season in Phoenicia. First train will leave Phoenicia at 12:15pm.

George Peck will lead a crew Saturday assisting in getting operations ready in Phoenicia Saturday morning. He will be taking the work train out later in the day to work along the line. He plans to start at 9am.

Brush crews will be working under George Peck's direction Saturday, cutting back growth from the station in Phoenicia to MP 27 as needed to keep vegetation away from the train. This is mostly lopper and blade type weed wacker work, with occasional chain saw work.

The 702 crew plan to start work on the 702 about 10am.


Kingston

Cornell Street will be closed Saturday.


Sunday, May 24th

George Peck be working in the Phoenicia yard starting at 9:30am.

Cornell Street will be open on Sunday at 9:30am.



Monday, May 25th


Train crews will be working this Monday. No work crews are scheduled.

Saturday, May 30th

Thursday, May 28th

Al Johnson and Terry W. installed the first nine seat frames in the 702:

Saturday, May 30th

The 702 crew consisted of Ernie Gehrer, George Liucci, Ed Palmatier and Dick Wilhelm. George and Ernie worked on the west end vestibule, assisted by Dick, and Ed Palmatier continued to paint seat frames.

The Phoenicia crew consisted of George Peck, Michael Adsit, and Derek Stapleton. They mainly worked clear overhanging vegetation on the line from Phoenicia to Mt. Pleasaant.


Sunday, May 31st

In Phoenicia, George Peck, Michael Adsit and Derek Stapleton did cleanup work in the Phoenicia yard.

In Kingston, Earl and Al Schoessow worked on Earl's trailer, Walt Otto, worked on passenger flat 278, Joe Marsh worked on the tamper, and John Patane and Joe Marsh weed wacked the line from Chandler Drive to Westbrook Lane. George Cook weed-wacked the yard.

George Cook also led a crew clearing logs from the line from Stony Hollow to Shokan.

The 702 crew plan to start work on the 702 about 10am. Plans call for additional seat frame painting and installation.


Kingston

Cornell Street will be open at 9am Saturday. Earl needs a couple guys with weed-wackers to cut grass on the ROW from O'Neil Street to Chandler drive for the Kingston charter on Sunday.


Sunday, June 7th

George Peck will be working in the Phoenicia yard starting at 9:30am.

Cornell Street will be open on Sunday at 9:30am.

Make-Up Rules Class - Sunday June 14th, 9:30am, Phoenicia Station. If you haven't qualified or re-qualified in 2008 or 2009 you must take this class and test if you want to be qualified for 2009.

Kingston

Earl Pardini plans to lead a crew to start tie replacement in Kingston at Elmendorf Street and work west. Todd Syska is bringing his backhoe to help out. The crew will meet at Cornell Street at 9am and move to Elmendorf Street about 9:30am.


Sunday, June 14th

The make-up rules class will be held at the Phoenicia station starting at 9:30am. If you haven't qualified or re-qualified in 2008 or 2009 you must take this class and test if you want to be qualified for 2009.

Cornell Street will be open on Sunday at 9:30am.

In Kingston, Earl Pardini will lead a crew replacing ties near Albany Avenue and Chandler Drive. They will start at Cornell Street at 9:30am and move to Albany Avenue shortly thereafter. We need a good turnout as there are many ties to replace in preparation of the start of our new Kingston service on July 4th:

Saturday, June 27th

On Saturday, George Peck and Michael Adsit worked on yard cleanup in the Phoenicia Yard. I helped out there with brushcutting in the yard area.

Al Johnson and Ed Palmatier installed four more seat frames in the 702, for a total of 18 out of 35 installed so far:

Tom Healy, Ernie Gehrer, George Liucci and Dick Wilhelm worked on the flagpole at Mt. Pleasant in the morning, and on the 702 in the afternoon.

Peter Fluchere and Ron Epstein assisted Gladys at Mt. Pleasant selling tickets and escorting passengers to the train.

Sunday, June 28th

On Sunday, Earl Pardini led a crew consisting of Bob Blake, Joe Mark, Al Schoessow, Ernie Klopping Mark Glaser and John Patane, and replaced ten ties west of Elmendorf Street:

I weed-wacked the last two hundred feet of the line down to the Hurley Flats washout at MP 5.53. Here is the view west from MP 5.54. The spray truck should be able to make it to this point. I also removed a tree just east of C-9.

Friday, July 3rd

George Peck will lead a crew Saturday morning starting in Phoenicia. The exact work plans are to be determined. He plans to start at 9:30am. Anyone who can bring a blade-type brush cutter would be very helpful to control vegetation on key parts of the line. Please report to George Peck.

In Kingston, Earl Pardini will lead a crew replacing ties near Albany Avenue and Chandler Drive. They will start at Cornell Street at 9:00am and move to Albany Avenue shortly thereafter. Earl could use a full crew as we will need to put several more ties in before service can begin on the 4th.

July 4, 2009

In Phoenicia, George Peck and Greg Peck did yard cleanup; I did weed-wacking in the yard, and Tom Healy put banners on coach 701. George Bain helped out at the Mt. Pleasant ticket booth.

In Shokan, Joe Marsh, Joe Klapkowski and Dick Wilhelm removed three rails at MP 17 for the temporary crossing there.

In Kingston, we ran service there for the first time in 2009. Present were Earl Pardini, Al Schoessow, Mark Glaser, John Patane, Greg Vaughn, and Mimi Pardini.

Friday, July 10th

The CMRR will be participating in the Kingston Children's Day Parade on Friday, July 10th.

If you wish to join us, please contact Mimi Pardini and let her know you are coming at 845-338-5230.

Set up is 4:30pm, near Andrews Street, and the start time is 6:00pm. Earl and Thom Johnson will be working on a float at Earl's house before the parade.

Bring your kids! The Kingston train will also be running that day from 7pm.



Saturday, July 11th

Phoenicia

George Peck will lead a crew Saturday morning starting in Phoenicia. He plans to take the gradall to MP 24 to fix a sinkhole there. He plans to start at 9am at Phoenicia yard.

The 702 crew should start work at 10am.

I will be leading a brush crew on Saturday, continuing work near Phoenicia Station and maybe later at Mt. Pleasant. I will start about 10am. Anyone who can bring a blade or line type brush cutter would be very welcome to help.

In Kingston, we will be continuing our summer service there at 1pm at Westbrook Lane. Cornell Street Yard will open about 9:00 for preparation work for the afternoon run.

We had a very busy week this week:

Tuesday, July 7th:

On Tuesday, July 7th, Joe Marsh, George Cook, Dick Wilhelm and Joe Klapkowski used the sickle bar mower and cut in-guage from Shokan to Hurley Mountain Road.


Wednesday, July 8th:

On Wednesday, July 8th, Joe Marsh and Chester Hartwell mowed with the sickle bar from West Hurley to Shokan.

Joe Klapkowski, Al Schoessow, and John Prestopino cut brush from Mt. Pleasant to Phoenicia.


Thursday, July 9th

On Thursday, Joe Marsh and Paul Sternitzke weed-wacked and cleared the line from Highmount to Pine Hill.


Friday, July 10th,

Joe Klapkowski worked on CMRR flat 202 in the Phoenicia Yard. He needle scaled and primed 3/8ths of the interior of the car.

Saturday, July 11th

In Phoenicia, George Peck, Gerg Peck, Jason DiTolla and Paul Sternitzke repaired the sinkhole at MP 24 and spent the rest of the day doing cleanup in the Phoenicia yard.

I spent the day brushcutting around the Lehigh Valley box car and near the sandwich shop near the station.

George Liucci, Ernie Gehrer, Ed Palmatier and Al Johnson primed the west end of coach 702:

Sunday, July 12th

In Kingston, Earl Pardini led a crew that inserted, plated and spiked 20 ties west of Washington Avenue. They removed spikes and plates from 7 more ties.

In Shokan, Joe Marsh led a NARCOA run from Shokan, MP 16.2 to the washout at Hurley flats at MP 5.5.
