The question everyone is secretly wondering is if this last of the mainline camelbacks would get fired and run once again. I'm wondering if that plays a part in the desire to require the engine?

Sorry - The question I'm asking, is that in these troubled economic times, when money is as scarce as it is, why are these groups pissing money away on lawyers that could instead be used to preserve or restore other artifacts.

I own a set of real Reading Company blue prints for the 0-4-0 #1187 now No.4. the cabs were made of wood. I have all 8 prints. And yes Linn knows I have them, I just haven't had time to get them copied yet.

You have to remember that the Lackawanna Chapter of the R&LHS was created specifically to attempt to regain possession of the 952. The R&LHS as an organization makes the NRHS look like high school kids when comparing average ages. The organization had no interest in "claiming" 952 but was willing to allow a new chapter to be created to do so. I mean, seriously why else would anyone want to become a new chapter in the 1990's of an organization on its way to oblivion? (Yes I know they give out the R&LHS book awards - an equally fuzzy organization gives out Golden Globe awards).

The Delaware Water Gap Station came up after the chapter was organized and had started its lawsuits for 952. I attended a few of the early meetings and the sole purpose of the station was to lend credibility to the Lackawanna Chapter being legitimate. Fortunately, the town of Delaware Water Gap has stepped up its involvement as well as members of the chapter not associated with the 952. A new roof is finally going on the building and it looks like the building will be saved - the town is hosting its "Founders Day" event on June 27 and the station will be open for inspection for those interested in seeing it.

Someone asked about where they would put 952 if they got it. In the early days of this effort they stated it would be part of the NJ Transportation Museum going into Phillipsburg - whoops! Now that the NJ Transportation Museum resembles Jefferson Davis and his Confederate government after the fall of Richmond moving from town to town in the dark of the night, that part has been dropped from the Chapter. It is interesting to note that at least 4 Board members of the Chapter, the URHS, and the Friends of the NJ Transportation Museum all overlapped at one time or another in classic interlocking boards fashion.

Perhaps this decision will allow the members of the Chapter who have been working on the station to finally push the litigants out of the Chapter leadership.

That's all fine and dandy Mr. Shaner, but the 952 is a DL&W locomotive, and it's well-known that the cab she had when she arrived at MOT was a plywood cab applied by the DL&W to "backdate" her to an appearance she never had in service. I believe the DL&W even had a fake oil headlight for the locomotive.

Just because a different cambelback, built by a different builder, for a different railroad at a different time, for a different type of service had a wooden cab, it doesn't mean that (1) the 952 had a wooden cab and that (2) the one the DL&W installed late in life for special "exhibition" serive was anywhere near accurate. I believe the 952 had a steel cab when built. Even if the 952 had a wooden cab when built, it probably looked more like the cab of PRR 7002 at RRMPA. Instead, the cab that the 952 was backdated with tried to make it look like something out of the 1880s.

Nonetheless, when the cosmetic restoration was done, an accurate, from-the-blueprints steel cab was fabricated and installed.

Who is the RTM and what locomotive did they sell to Ohio Central? I know the VTM sold OC an NKP Berk, but I never heard anything about the RTM. I guess I'm just out of touch-

I believe Mr. Shaner is calling the Virginia Museum of Transportation the Roanoke Transportation Museum.

Well I got the wrong name to the museum , When I was there in the late 1980's it was known as the Roanoke Transportation Museum, but I'm not the only one that refers it to that, here's few a websites.

No harm, no foul.

Seems like any museum that's been around awhile, has had at least one name change. It's practically a rite of passage.

That's to say nothing of "X operated by Y", such as "Niles Canyon Railway operated by the Pacific Locomotive Association"....

As I was afraid would be the case, the plaintiffs ( R&LHS-Lackawanna Ch.) will be filing an appeal of the recent 952 decision.

Lots more dollars about to be spent by both sides in this dispute!! Shame the money somehow couldn't have been spent on the loco. vs. the lawyers!!

Well, the attorneys representing MOT on this issue are part of the St. Louis County County Counselor's office. The office handles the legal affiars of the County. I guess you could make the argument that they could be spending their time doing something else, but unlike most pay-by-the-hour attorneys, they get paid a set salary, work or not. As someone who's recently paid property and personal property taxes to St. Louis County, I'm glad to see my tax dollars at work.

You assume that this group cares about the only other DL&W steam loco to survive. It has been evident for a long time here that they could care less about any loco other than the 952. I doubt they would actually work on a loco, but at least their money (deep pockets we are told) would be a big help.
