Had an opportunity to take a look at Gulf Mobile and Ohio business car # 5, which is presently stored at the Black River and Western in Ringoes NJ. The car, which looks mostly neglected, appears to have been seized by some judgement by the US Marshall's office. and was offered for sale via bid which concluded on February 26, 2009.

GM&O 5, I believe was at one time stored in New Orleans at a now ( long gone ) scrap yard near the Super Dome in New Orleans. The car left New Orleans I suspect 25 years ago, and after seeing some storage in Philadelphia, and later Oaks Pennsylvania, the car somehow made it to Ringoes NJ.

Wonder what the story is with this car, and wonder what the future holds. Another heavyweight in peril I suspect... The notice from the US Marshall's office hung on the rear door of the car.

Any information ?

You don't see US Marshall's involved in historic rail equipment too often.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

Inside of the car was pretty much a shell.... metal framed out walls, and most items that likely date back to the GM&O era, not really in place. Not sure about what this car was before it was converted to a business car, likely from the looks of it, a home shop GM&O conversion.

I attach a few interior photographs.

Dean -

Here's a photo of the car taken in 1982 when she still wore the more respectable (although faded) GM&O paint scheme:
