PEOPLE!! WHAT'S WITH ALL THE FLIPPING HOSTILITY TOWARDS ONE ANOTHER!!??!! The main reason we're here is to talk about restoration and preservation not to mention the fate and outcome of 565. Jeez!!
There's a reason that I choose this forum over others is because most of the people here are reasonably more intelligent than other forums...now I'm not so sure!
Who cares if one person wrote whatever and another relays it? Fact remains that it was said and we should be satisfied that it was.

Can we knock off the childhood and high school antics towards one another on this? I for one know I am getting sick of it. Can we all just be civil on this? There's enough anger and hatred in the world and a reason we all come here; to discuss our love of railroads, engines, restoration and foremost, PRESERVATION, no persecution.

This thread bothers me. It has my attention. There have been multiple complaints and back channel emails.

The basic concept and subject is good - one of our members Steve (afboone) has permission and support at Steamtown to do a cosmetic restoration of a locomotive...

Then, we collectivity took detours along the way:

1) Arguing that the locomotive must be restored, and was run recently so of course those who say it can't be restored are wrong. This of course accompanied by "I took a photo...." (this in no way is saying the discussions of the loco's history and condition are inappropriate... they are)

2) A random discussion the St Louis camel back, complete with misstatements about who was in line to receive the loco if the law suit was successful, who filed the law suit, what railroad donated it (or didn't exsist when it was donated) and why it needs (or doesn't) a wooden cab from a Reading locomotive.

3) Continued stories of a Pennsy switcher hidden in a flooded quarry, part of a conspiracy by the state...

4) a great variety of personal sniping... including a suggestion that a member leave the forum.

The Preservation and cosmetic restoration of this engine is wonderful. The side stories are a distraction. Many of the digressions while irritating do not violate the boards guidelines, but in no way add to our collective knowledge or enjoyment.

Hello all,
I went up to Steamtown NHS today and saw 565 in person. The fact My self and Lue were the only ones to show up, were a surpize to Bruce. But we took the tour of what needs to be done, I might add A lot!
The main thing as of right now must be the lead truck. the jurnels need to be found or be made new. and the swible pin needs to be found or be made new. Before the 565 can be move to the loco shop the front boggie must be place back under the frame.
If I can get at least 6 guy's up there for a work day we could do some good. I think we found the second single stage air pump that gose on the Left side. we are missing the front leaf springs for the first set of drivers and we are missing both cross heads.
It be neat if some one out there has the loco prints for this locomotive.
If any of you want to help out please contact me via PM. We need a person that can weld. There is a few parts that needs to be rewelded. and also if you can drive a fork lift would help too.
Sometime soon I'm going to have bruse take the tender over to the loco shop so we can get rid of the oil tank, the wooden beam on the front needs to be replace. it's rotted out on the right end. also if there's anyone in here that works for New Hope could you look around and see if you have a pair of front three stept tender steps. Steamtown don't have them.
I spent the whole day there from 9AM. to 5:30PM.

"Hello Gentlemen, how about we get together either dates in July Sunday 12,19-or 26 . We can meet in the parking at 9:30am near the Big Boy.

I would like to get working on the front lead truck, and the tender too.
If we can get that done we will be making head way. The lead truck is what keeping the locomotive from going to the main loco shop so lets try to get that working and placed back on. I know there are a few parts that are missing or has to be made so lets work on that. Then also I would like to get the tender over to the main shop so we can get the oil tank remove and also fix the rotten wood on the front of the tender. if we can get the tender fixed and painted, that would show the world we mean what we say. :)

When I was up this past Sunday, I was looking around and wow there is a lot to be done. but I feel it can get done and will get done through everyone working together. I saw a piece of timber up on the hill that I think will work for the wooden beam on the tender. I'm going to contact New Hope and see if they might have our front steps for the tender.
