Here is an image of the loco I mentioned a few days ago.

There are at least three at this one site. This one being the most complete. The other two, one is less the boiler the other the drivers.

Please don't ask exactly where they are as (a) I don't know and (b) I believe from the correspondence I've seen, they have been already offered to a US based group.

Trevor wasnt there an article on this board a while back about some guy claiming to have found an abandoned steam locomotive somewhere in the jungles of the Hawaiian Islands? Also this locomotive definately looks Baldwin Im noticing the circular rusted area where the builders plate once was Looking at this photo I would guess ? this may be in Brazil? El Salvador? Guatamala? Could be Hawaii, though these types of locomotives only ran on the Oahu Railway on the islands and as far as is known their disposition has all been accounted for I would certainly be interested in someone coming forward with more information on this photo

My best guess is Usina Tiuma (road transport depot), Sao Lourenco da Mata (nr. Paulista), Pernambuco, Brazil. There are two Baldwin 2ft gauge locomotives there.

Well Brazil sounds likely this appears to be a 2-6-0. are there any botanists here who could analize the vegetation in the image as to region of the world?

I have searched the web some more myself. According to:

The pair were moved to INDAIA TRANSPORTES LTDA (Near Paulista); where they are beautifully painted in the original colors (annually), and put on display on concrete at a road transport depot belonging to the Grupo Votorantim.

I'm not a botanist, but I can tell you it ain't Kentucky......here we have KUDZU, and you wouldn't see ANY part of a hidden locomotive!

With the wide spacing between #2 and #2 drivers it probably has Stevenson valve gear.

Wide firebox, strange (tall) front bumper and I can only just make out that the front coupler is not exactly common but, not much more

At least one of the vines and leaves is a "strangler fig". We are probably in Central America, but northern South America is possible. I'll venture a guess at Belize, Honduras, or Guatamala.

Paulista, Brazil is at the extreme eastern tip of Brazil, so it sounds like it is too far south.

Now, there are/were 22+ Baldwin-built 2-6-0s in Cuba, most were out of use or derelict during the mid-1990s. But they were not 2' 0" gauge; but rather 2ft 3¾in, 2ft 6in, and 2ft 10½in (mostly 2ft 6in.) And with the cleanup of sugar mill sites taking place since 2000, any derelict engines at the various mill sites have mostly likely been scrapped.

Of course, it could always be a new discovery.

It is interesting to me that this topic has surfaced this way here. I announced the Hawaiian engine on this list, and now I am trying to clarify those who heard about the Brazillian engines. In fact this engine is Estrada de Ferro Perus Pirapora (EFPP) No. 15, an 1891 Baldwin 2-6-2T built to the gauge of 600mm (about 2'). There are other Baldwins and Porters and some German engines on the railroad, which is a historic collection of the country and not likely to be allowed to leave the borders without some finesse and politics. There is a fledgeling group out to preserve and restore this railroad, which is very much like the EBT. The current main project is to move the engines, parts, and equipment from the former shop site of Gato Preto to the museum's stretch of operating railroad. I am working to help in translations and hope to have a new website in English up soon.

I now remember seeing a request about 3 months ago for help in translating documents relating to this project and suggested a Brazilian railfan I'd been in recent contact with to the requestor.

Very cool stuff. I watched the video you posted and part two. in part two them mention that they were using passenger cars built but Harland and Hollingsworth in Wilmington, DE (my hometown!). I love finding out about Wilmington built equipment. One day I am going to make a list.

The picture is from me and I will be returning to work on this "Dead line" this weekend. I will take measurements of cylinders, boiler and axle centers so that we can a better picture what the engine is.

I just have to be careful there is a HUGE wasp nest in the empty boiler under the steam dome. My friends say that wasps are worst then the african bees in the other engines.
