I want to ask your opinion on an idea I've been rolling around in my head. As you look at these pictures and links of the locomotives and equipment the we have at the Perus Pirapora you can imagine that a group of 10 people from simple and diverse background and no funds, tools or much except dedication will never have enough resources to preserve let alone restore all the equipment.

We have to except for now that equipment will not leave Brazil, the same law that preserved the WHOLE railroad and infrastructure from scrapping also prevents it from leaving. Maybe some polititicians and lawyers can figure out another form but it is a long shot.

So given that there is never enough to go around I was wondering if there is interest in the world to adopt an engine? You may have often seen "food for the world" or adopt a child in a third world "50cents a day feeds them for a week..." programs.

Well in Brazil the legal minimum wage is R$650/month about $300/month, in this area just outside of Sao Paulo there are huge Favalas with lot of under/un-employed people with honest simple skills.

What if several people would get together from US and abroad and agree to sponsor a worker to scrape, pant and work on certain engines? We could provide work and wages what would probably support a family of 3 people, and we would asure preservation of our favorite engine under supervision and you could get digital proof of work ongoing, you could even guide the restoration and share knowledge?

The Perus PiraPora will start operating a speeder service over 3.5km in the next months, government and private companies will start supporting in the future of the railroad but there will be not a way to preserve specific locomotives.

We have one 2-4-2T close to running needs mostly new pipes for injectors and other steam lines. We only have parts and complete 4 sister engines and an extra cylinder block...someday soon

Thor- Great photos. On the wasps, use diesel fuel; it works much better. It "wets" their wings so they can't fly and quickly kills them. If you put the diesel in a pump-type oil can you can squirt them from a safe distance.
