I've known Mark a long time, and the only red-neck thing he does is go to NASCAR races.....

Mike

Besides, if you are going to be a redneck, you might as well be the best, which means being Southern. Damned Yankees will never get it....

I hear they're going to restore all the Big Boys and put them back in freight service. Is that true?

Shhhhh....

By the way, the last time I was called Mark Gray in print was when Trains quoted me in the "Quotes of the Month" thing they used to do. That Mark Gray guy got the credit for it. Somehow the G keeps getting misplaced.

Hey, perhaps the Superheater can elighten us all on the future of steam in China. Or maybe even give us some predictions on when steam will return to the NS. And I have to know, will the Superheater be at the Fare of the Iron Horse?

When I ordered my 2001 Pontiac GTP (that's a Grand Prix, not some sort of diesel locomotive), the salesman couldn't believe I wanted an 8 trzck tape player. I told him I had to have it so I could play my Deliverance sound track.

I had a little trouble getting the rebel flag in the rear window, too.

Time for a little Charlie Daniels and the Devil Went Down to Georgia....

All Y'all good ole boys sure showed us a big time in Nawth Carolina, but I was gettin tired of actin as translator for my fellow Yankees.
I should have thought of an internet April Fools Joke! Here John Bush and I spent yesterday jacking up the front end of HRR number 2 so it would like it was poppin' a wheelie - and we didn't fool anybody when they came in this morning!

It was supposed to be funny. BTW: The reference was supposed to be to Southern as in with a green light for innovation in the Oh. Nevermind. Back to railfan reality for April 2. I was just razzing ya'll. Especially Crayft. Wake up and smell the coal smoke (or whatever you're smokin')!

They'll be in a movie called "Seven Big Boys for Seven Sisters." One Big Boy will stand by as an extra. I wonder which one....

I never met Superheater, I have only heard of the legend; however, back in the old days of Steamtown Foundation, John Hart, director at the time, was asked to give a presentation at the Wash Chpt., NRHS. The General Manager of Steamtown, Fred Bailey, did know S. and briefed John about him. So after the presentation and during the Q and A, a member got up and started to grill John Hart as to all of Steamtown's plans for its BIG locomotives, and how we needed to get them restored and running. After the series of questions John Hart replied, "Now Sir, I have a question of you: Are you THE Superheater?"

Ol' Superheater had to be experienced firsthand - the stories are good, but until you've seen that hair and that squint, and inhaled that aroma, you don't really know the man.

But let's not forget his boon companion, the Peace Man!

Hmmmm . . . something for next April, perhaps?

But John, you forgot the beard. We said that he used to shave with scissors, because he always had the three day growth of beard. I got a phone call from him once on Christmas Day asking me to come and see his train slides. And there was nothing worse than trying to pick up and score points with a young female passenger on the ground at Front Royal, only to have Superheater come up, introduce himself to the young damsel, and then ask what I thought could be done to get 759 or 611 running.

I never had the "pleasure." He was ALWAYS a solo act when I was around. However it's one thrill I think I can handle not experiencing.

I resemble that.........

Lucky I was working out of laptop range or no doubt superheater would have included me - as I am from the south (side of Pittsburgh).
