Capital Public Radio's Jeffrey Callison today included a discussion of the restoration of Sierra Railway 3, 4-6-0 (Rogers 4493 / 1891), originally Prescott & Arizona Central Railway 3. This locomotive is currently under repair at the Sierra Railway, Jamestown, California. Sierra Railway 3 has been featured in many Hollywood films and TV shows, including, "Petticoat Junction."

Sierra Railway 3 was last operated in May, 1996. Special steam operated trains, including steam double-headers, are planned for the date when Sierra Railway 3 will be re-commissioned, planned for spring, 2010.

Hey, thanks for posting this! For a very long time, seeing the ol' Three-Spot run has been on my "bucket list". I grew up with "Petticoat Junction" and it was Sierra #3 that hooked me forever on steam engines. I was aware that she was being restored, but I had no idea that the process was this far along.

Note to self: Leave April open for a California trip! :o)

If you want to be part of the big parties next spring, be sure to become a Railtown member! #3 donors (at certain levels) have been promised a ride on the first run, as well as reception and invites to the best of the Gala events. Its not too late!
