Over the past several months quite a few on this board asked when our 6325 video would be ready....now it is. For more info go to our website.

Greg, will there be a rebuild tape available in the future? If not by yourself, by someone else?

I do not have any rebuild footage in this video. We did have a little bit from a visit previously, but felt it wasn't worth taking up time from the trips we were documenting. I know one of my competitors got some footage from the OC folks and included that in their video. I seriously doubt someone will have an entire rebuild tape cause nobody can afford to spend that much time on the road for the little you back from these things. However, you might be better off asking the folks at Ohio Central directly.

I'm sorry, and I might draw flames here, but I must comment. My video collection has only two rebuild videos, the one of MILW 261, and the one of Soo Line 2719. They are BY FAR the most watched in the collection. I am always looking for more. I'm sure, Greg, that they may not be the most profitable videos, but I think they serve a valuable purpose - to help document the process. I learn far more from them than endless runbys of old number whatever.

Just one person's thought. Flame on!

Mark Perri spent a great deal of time documenting the rebuild of the 6325, as well as helping out (see the Oct. and Nov. '01 issues of 'Railpace') and has put together a dual projector slide/sound show on it. He was supposed to have debuted the show at Eastrail a couple of weeks ago, and will be showing it again at the April Potomac Chapter NRHS meeting on the 16th. I realize it's not video, but at least the process is documented.

I believe Greg is referring to Mark I Video's new tape on 6325. There is a fair amount of "rebuild footage" on this tape, done I believe by Tim Sposato and/or Jason Johnson.

I'm another nut that likes the rebuild footage as much--if not more--than the "action scenes". I have "pure rebuild" tapes on 3751, 261, and one of the D&S Narrow Gauge Mikes--all are enjoyable and informative viewing.

BTW: On the 6325 tape we are treated to the humor of Jerry Jacobson (he MUST be a fun guy to work for!!) during the inital fire up and during some in-cab footage on one of the first runs. Also the scene of them blowing out the cylinder and valve bores under steam was quite spectacular--thought they were going to blow the engine backwards into the shop!

Jim Robinson

Jim:

What is the name of your tape on the 3751? Who did it?

Thanks.

It's "Santa Fe 3751--The Restoration" by Video Rails (part of Pentrex).

Dunno if it's still available, but Durango & Silverton, a long time ago (10 years) did a nice video on the restoration of on of their heavy 2-8-2s.

Yeah, its a really good video, I think its called rebirth of a locomotive, and it's either # 482 or 483 that was getting rebuilt.

It sure was NOT 483. 483 is in Chama and has not run since 1977 or so.
Matter of fact we are auctioning a 483 builder's plate as we speak. Benefit the Friends of 483 fund or the Chama Shop.

Yep, that's video I mentioned above. It features the rebuild of D&S' K-36 482. The tape is called "Rebirth of a Locomotive" and is narrated by singer C.W. McCall (of "Convoy" fame). It's still available.

The 6325 video from Mark 1 has been available since January. It is a good one! Has all 6325 trips in 2001, plus some 1551. Extra footage of the 1997 Steamfest is an added bonus with 1293, 1551, & 13! Recommended by 4 out of 5 railfans (the fifth is another video producer).
