The LSE must analyze all bids and determine whether they are going to sell the entire collection to the museum consortium. If the museum consortium wins the overall bid, then each car only has one bidder. The 14 museums worked out ahead of time who would get what equipment and I believe all the equipment has been accounted for.

If the consortium bid is declined, then each car is a head to head contest and the highest bidder wins. The bid sheets were for individual lots and it did not appear that "packaged" bids were acceptable. If nobody bids on a car in direct bidding, then it remains property of the LSE who will be responsible for salvaging or making other arrangements to their satisfaction/needs.

I'm really interesed in how the bidding for things other than the cars turn out. The If you don't win this you can put the money towards another thing is kinda strange.

That's a good thing from our point of view. We could use one of the Westinghouse air compressors. I bid on the one I wanted the most, if I am not the highest bidder on that one, then I have 3 alternate bids on other air compressors. Hopefully by the time I get to my last air compressor, I will have won a bid. On the other hand, if I was the high bidder on all, I sure don't need 4 compressors.

Andy:

I feel sure that if the consortium bids are rejected and you do get four compressors, that you can find buyers/traders for the other ones. I can think of one and perhaps two projects that need compressors.

I am hopeful that the consortium bids are accepted as I think this is the best and fairest way to dispose of ALL of items/lots in the LSE collection.

Regardless of the outcome, I want to thank Bill Wall for the hard work he has done to coordinate amongst the 14 museums making up the consortium. It's amazing that he brought all of the museums together to cooperate on this endeavor, which is a sign of good leadership qualities.

Thanks!

I agree with you Jim:

I also want to thank Bill Wall for his efforts to put the consortium bid together. He did a tireless effort to pull all the groups together. What many may not know is he did this while removing his own group from consideration to alleviate any idea that his group would benefit.

Even if the consortium bid is rejected I hope that the museum community can learn from Bill's efforts and work closer together to further our common cause.

Bill Wall worked hard to make the deal happen. All in all this is a very happy ending to an unfortunate situation. Many thanks to my friends and colleagues who worked with Bill on an historic effort, and to the trustees at Lake Shore for their foresight in entertaining a consortium bid in the first place.

Since the consortium bid has been accepted, it appears that the cabooses (cabeese) have found homes, as the requirement for the consortium bid was that all equipment be included. I am aware of one organization, represented by a person who posts regularly on this board, that was interested in the NYO&W caboose. That is all I have heard at this time.

I just chatted with Bill Wall who is somewhere on I-80 driving home to Connecticut.

In answer to the above questions:
O&W caboose went to Connecticut Trolley Museum north of Hartford
N&W caboose went to NORM

Now all consortium members have to get their purchase agreements and payments in. Those are due to the Lake Shore Electric group by 5 PM on Wednesday, October 7th.

This has been an interesting experience. It was like herding cats according to Bill Wall. But I think that the whole drill demonstrates that museums can cooperate for the good of the whole and hopefully it will be a starting point for closer cooperation amongst the museums.

Thanks!
