Some time ago, there was a discussion of the missing trucks for the two Alco PAs that were returned from Mexico. They have acquired FM trucks, of course, but just found a photo of the Dutch electrics that have (had?) trucks quite similar to the PAs. Note brake rigging is different, and wheels are spoked. Did Alco have something to do with these locomotives?

There are a number of Alco export locomotives that use similar trucks as well- the DL500 "world" locomotive used in Australia and Spain comes to mind. There are certainly possibilities for replicaing PA trucks if one has the motivation and MONEY.

On how the PA's look with the FM trucks,if you didn't know any difference, you'd think the FM trucks were "factory". Both the ALCo and FM trucks were built by the same supplier, General Steel Castings.

Back in the early 1970's during a trip to Amsterdam I was surprised to come across a Dutch Railways electric which with the exception of a squared off nose appeared to be a dead nuts match for a New Haven EP-5. Upon closer inspection of the builders plate I discovered that they had been built by GE and if I recall properly its build date was close to that of the New Haven units. Looking at a builders photo of an EP-5 shows that despite some differences in the position of the springs the trucks are essentially the same. The image on the link shows a locomotive which has a changed appearance from how I remember the unit. No doubtedly due to a subsequent rebuilding.

Hello all

I used to volunteer (through the STIBANS) at the Dutch National Railway Museum which now has #1202 of the 1200 class. The 1200's were built by Werkspoor (mechanical) and Heemaf (electrical) in Holland to a design spec by Baldwin/Westinghouse. The trucks, and parts of the frame were built stateside by Baldwin and shipped over as well as some Westinghouse electrical gear. The trucks are not the same as the PA's, they were designed by Baldwin, unfortunately.

IIRC, GSC was jointly owned by Alco and Baldwin.
Don't know if it was a 50/50 split or if one owned a greater share than the other.
