Back a few years ago the folks in Honesdale, Pa considered restoring the Stourbridge Lion Replica in their museum. They decided that it was too old and now are working on a plan to build another replica. A replica of a replica!

I wonder if the original replica (?) is a functional model or a mock-up. It might be worth finding out what is on hand before they replace the original replica with a replica replica.

As far as I know the Stourbridge Lion was/is a functional Replica. In doing research for my book I read somewhere that the D&H wanted to replicate the original Lion as closely as possible, and used the same construction methods used to construct the original.

Historic in it's own right, for all purposes it is an 1820's locomotive - built in 1932. Since many parts were lost before the replica was built, some of the replica's parts are based on old lithographs, paintings and the like as well as similar engines extant in the UK.

I guess it's not totally unheard of, aren't there several replicas of the "Rocket"?

In a quote from the article,"Peter Bouley, an expert in steam locomotive restoration, has volunteered his services and arranged the donation of the locomotive’s boiler. He was selected as Project Manager at the meeting." I know I have heard the name before but can not place the restoration's Peter Bouley has been involved in. Any help anyone?

Peter Bouley had owned and operated Beson Mountain Company of Pascoag, RI for many years. He did consulting work and fabricated ASME Code Boilers. He furnished a boiler for Tanana Valley RR #1 and also a new boiler for the "Henry Clay" mine lokie at Pioneer Tunnel at Ashland, PA. I'm sure he did other railroad projects as well. He also built and sold fire tube boilers (code) for the personal steam launch hobby. I think that company is no longer in business, but I believe he is still trading under the name Train Rite Services, LLC, still in Pascoag, RI.

It was actually Benson Mountain Company. They did provide a boilers and services but also had some issues. I never dealt with them and have heard that they got a bad rap for something out of their control. The Lion boiler is not very complicated and should not be too difficult design or build.

Does the article make it seem as though Mr Bouley has the boiler already on hand... or is it me?
