Can someone tell me where this locomotive is now? Some web sites say it went from Steamtown to the museum at Portola, CA, while others say it is at the Triple-T Agricultural Museum, also in California. As there are no dates on these postings both may have been in its past travels, but where did it land?

From memory,

It was given to the Nevada State Railroad Museum by Steamtown (It was planned to serve as a standin for a V&T loco, which V&T purchased used from UP) but shipped to Portola for storage due to issues of rail access and space.

NSRM decided not to include it in their collection and deeded it to Portola....

Separately the Pacific Locomotive Association was given a Western Pacific 0-6-0 from the Alameda County Fairgrounds. They took it primarly because it was steam and it was close...

PLA then sold the 0-6-0 to the farm... they are a privately owned historic/farm themed event space, and wanted to add a display train...

Portola then traded the 4-4-0 for the 0-6-0 before the 0-6-0 was moved...

It worked well for all parties....

Now I understand why there are photos of it on-line at Portola, but their web site only has mention and photos of the WP 0-6-0. Thanks for the info.

Ron,

smoke over Steamtown by Gordon chappell has a good history of the locomotive up to the time it was in Scranton, PA.

I think it is available from the Steamtown National Historic Site's web site.

Until it left; the locomotive was the oldest locomotive in the Steamtown (Blount) collection.

Gordon is still in the Oakland Regional Office His telephone is (510)
817-1394 Pacific Standard time.
