"Business cars TP&W no 1 and C&EI "Danville" long time used as a restaurant in Peoria Ill., are at this moment being prepared to be moved to the Wheels of Time for display. They will join Rock Island pacific 886 (ex 887), TP&W tool car (ex Milwaukee Road combine) and the TP&W's first steel bay window caboose."

...and you can add to that list, Wabash Business car #6, long stored in a heated warehouse in Bedford Park, IL. This car was purchased from the N&W in the mid/late 60's, by private owners, and operated for a time as a PV by them, traveling mostly in the upper midwest, and stored at the time at Dearborn Station. Monticello Railway Museum was contacted by the owners some time back regarding moving it to Monticello, and it has finally come to pass.

When Dearborn was closed, the car was moved to indoor storage, where it has been since. This car is the classicl "old car in a barn". The owners did little with the interior contents, and only changed the carpet and drapes to more closely match their choice of paint on the exterior. But, they kindly saved samples of both the carpet and drapery materials. In poking through the car, we've found Wabash towels, Wabash paper chef's hats, and the car steward's locker still had several unopened bags of uniform coats and pants for the crew. (most not marked, but a few are)

The car water tanks were still partially full of water, as was the Baker heater. Much time was spent draining, then flushing RV antifreeze through the plumbing to hopefully prevent any freeze damage to the water system.)

The car is currently loaded on a flat car, soon to move to Monticello Railway Museum.

Another preserved car is the ex-IC office car that used to be at the Thompson Winery south of Monee, IL from the 60's to the 90's. It's been moved a few miles and sits on blocks (trucks nearby) but is thankfully still around. I'm not exactly sure which car this is or the original history of it.

I dare say that the IC chocolate and orange was much more attrative on this car.....
