You got me on that one! It is quite possible I may venture out there at a later date to see Ohio Central. It looks like a great organization. I've been doing a lot with my car club lately. I need to get some steam back in my blood.

I remember the National Geographic documentary on trains that had 2716 in it. There was a guy they interviewed that said one of the funniest thing. He said, "I have trains in my blood, some people have alcohol, but I have trains..."

P.S.- Greg, I'll carry your gear if you chase 614 with me in the near future on it's dead head...;-)

Well, I am afraid I will pass on the 614 chase. I saw it plenty when it ran the Chessie specials, and the best was the 1985 Coal Trains....awesome stuff like regular service...and in winter. Steam in winter to the grand spectacle.

I strongly recommend a visit to Ohio Central. There are some trips in the fall worth doing, and who knows what might pop up over there. With OC the possibilities are really limitless. Its a unique situation that folks should embrace, because like so much steam, nothing seems to stay forever(except perhaps 844)!

Hey Greg,

Bet I'm closer to you than any of these guys, since I only live in Xenia. And I'll tote anything you've got, pay my own gas and provide lunch.BEAT THAT.

Xenia, the town that was put on the map by a tornado that wiped it off the map. Were you around back then? You folks all have me beat. A drive from Wisconsin is a real road trip!

Also, don't forget "Steam Still Stands" released as a VHS videocassette by Berkshire Videography in 1985. It has a general documentary of the contemporary tourist operations of the Strasburg and RR Museum, with a quarter of the program devoted to the mainline trips with 7002 and 1223. My favorite shot is when Linn Moedinger has 7002 wide open flying down the mainline at 79 mph on a banked curve at Middletown--almost resembles a high speed Amtrak train; he must have been on top of the world at that moment! I was thinking about that segment the other day when I found #7002's original chain-operated fire door in one of our baggage cars which I am in the process of cataloguing. It was one of the first (and few) railroad videos I ever owned (got it as a Christmas present at age 12). Not sure if it is still available; it was produced by Rich Melvin of 765 fame and the footage was shot by Grant Geist (now with the Ohio Central's 6325).
