Hi all:

A few of us are flying out to Cleveland early morning tomorrow the 28th. We should be at Brookpark around 9:30 am to get 303 ready to ship. Once we are done there we should be stopping in at the dock mid afternoon. I will try and take some pictures.

460 has a pantograph installed by RTA. The video from the traffic camera is not archived. It would only be archived if the shot had been taken during a newscast. I had the camera on just for yucks. I had no idea that the move I saw was in the works. Oh well, make it a memory.

There is one car move that is on video. The move of CTS Airporter #172 to the Northern Ohio Railway Museum did make the 10pm Fox 8 news on 11-30-09. The story was repeated on 12-01-09 in the early morning newscasts. It was a reader (anchors reading copy with video shown) showing the car sitting on a dolly wheel on one end (instead of its own truck) with the other end hooked to a heavy duty tow truck. The footage of it going around the turn with the Cleveland Browns Football stadium in the background has to be seen to be believed.

Oh Yes, this is the station I work for!

News from Cleveland:

Just got back from a quick trip out to prepare car 303 for shipment. We were fortunate to see cars 36 and 319 heading for the highway as they were right in front of the rental car shuttle bus we were on at the time. Miserable day to be hauling cars as it was snowing and would continue to do so for the entire time we were there. We were fortunate to have 303 inside the Brook park shop. This made our work much easier and allowed us to get a good look at 303.

I would like to thank Tim O'Donnell and his crew for their help in getting the car ready. I would also like to thank Steve Heister for also coming and giving us a hand.

303 is expected to ship some time in the next few weeks. We are talking about putting her in our main display hall for a while. We will probably put a new canvas roof on her hopefully later this coming year before she gets used in public service.

36 and 319 arrived at IRM yesterday, and should be unloaded sometime today.

There's something not quite right in those photos... neither truck is stuck!

Hope the unloading goes smoothly.

Dennis -

Hopefully, someone will take some photos of the unloading there at Union.

Yeah, but you know, Dennis, even guys as dumb as Nick and me have managed to learn a few things in the last 30 years. I have just posted pictures of the unloading.

A true reminder of the "bad old days" at Union, when you could get the old Hyster forklift stuck without leaving the "road" (without even any snow!)....and you had to be careful where you parked it, because some areas would seem fairly solid, but the forklift would sink down to the frame in about 15 minutes. (...and then you could get the old blue Air Force surplus dump truck stuck while trying to pull the fork truck out!) When all else fails, chain the stuck vehicle to the nearest operable locomotive, and use that to pull it out!

Jeff

See the link on the preservation of CRys/Shaker 1218. Boy I wish our local transit agency would spring for maybe a cuppla thousand for one of our restorations. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/12/university_circle_will_display.html

Thanks!

Saw mention earlier on the IRM Yahoo list of a rumored "incident" involving trying to move the steel cars the other day and some damage done to one of the 450's (specifically noted as not one of the two destined for IRM)

Anyone have any details, car number ?
Not looking to paint a worst case scenario, but what a horrible shame it would be to lose any of the cars from the Trolleyville/LSE collection at this late stage of the game !

All of the steel cars except for the 453 are now at Brookpark:
