Post subject: "Tom Thumb" and "Lafayette" arrive at Strasburg

I saw "Tom Thumb" and "Lafayette" on a truck yesterday near Lancaster. I followed them until they arrived at Strasburg RR. One of the mechanics said they are being rebuilt for "Fair of the Iron Horse" and that the "Thatcher Perkins" and "Atlantic" might be coming soon as well.

Well, this is certainly some evidence that not only is the Fair still on, the B&O museum is going have more steam in one location in the east than we've seen in years.

The 6 we should reasonably expect, so far:

Tom Thumb (B&O replica)
Lafayette (B&O replica)
William Mason (oldest operating steam in N.A.)
Thatcher Perkins
Atlantic (a grasshopper!)
the 0-6-0 current under restoration

Well, not speaking for anyone else, I'd say that 6 locomotives with Baltimore heritage running in Baltimore is a pretty good show already.

I was down there the last time they ran 3 steamers and it was a blast.

Remember, the museum has the age-appropriate rolling stock to go with these gems.

Can't wait!

That would be St. Elizabeth #4, an 0-4-0, and it has been running since last autumn.

Earlier St. Elizabeth locos were lettered 'The Federal Hospital for the Criminally Insane".

I spoke to the folks at the B&O Museum today and the "Thatcher Perkins" is not being considered as a restoration candidate. The 1836 "Atlantic" is a possibility but the clock is ticking in order to have it ready by the Fair of the Iron Horse.

I have a space in my shop - send her on down, we'll have her out by the fair.
