Minnesota Transportation Museum's Jackson Street Roundhouse

The have a nice collection of freight equipment. What is between the SOO and BN boxcars on the near track?

That Roundhouse Museum building needed a lot of restoration.

after being used as a truck garage the service pit was filled with gravel. Tje museum volunteers did what amounts to an archaeology project to did it out again. The article on the web site has since been replaced; but I have never heard of another instance of digging out something like that.

and they had to do a lot of track repairs in order to re-establish the rail connections.

As a post card collector I wish they would do some post cards. Other divisions of the same museum have cards!

Hi Ted:

A point of clarification. The MTM now is a railroad oriented museum only. In addition to the Museum's Jackson Street Roundhouse, MTM operates tourist trains that operate out of the restored Soo Line depot at Osceola, Wisconsin (located about 25 miles northeast of St. Paul.). This is the Osceola & St. Croix Valley RR. The MTM does have their Classic Bus Division comprised of several Twin City Lines buses as well as a couple of buses from other lines. The museum also staffs the Minnehaha Depot which is located in Southeast Minneapolis adjacent to the city's Minnehaha Falls Park, which contains the famous waterfall of the same name.

In 2005 the MTM Board decided to "spin off" two other divisions: The Steamboat Division and the Traction Division. These divisions are now independent 501c3 organizations that are called: The Museum of Lake Minnetonka http://www.steamboatminnehaha.org/ and the Minnesota Streetcar Museum http://www.trolleyride.org.

Jim,

You are of course correct.

I did not go into the split up of the organization because I was just talking about the one part of it!

I am still impressed about a good piece of railroad preservation of both the building and the collection of equipment that they have!
