Where is this car located, does anyone know?

I suspect--but don't guarantee--that this car is on the property of the Green Mt. RR in North Walpole, N.H., across the river from Bellows Falls, Vt.

One heck of a long-term project, but if ever a car belonged with the museum at WRJ, this would be one. RMNE would be a good alternative home. Needs a total frame-off restoration at an enclosed shop. Sending it to WRJ via Strasburg wouldn't be a bad idea. They know what to do with wooden basket cases. Now all they would need is a financial angel.

This car is at Seaview Transportation in Quonset Point, RI. I think the car was once (currently?) owned by "Steam Associates", which had some other vintage rolling stock stored at the RI location.

Paul, thanks for the suggestion about RMNE being a good home, but frankly, we have other items already on hand that need attention and cover. Unless this arrived at Thomaston with a very generous and benevolent benefactor, let's say...

Frame off restoration...you must be joking. It looks like it would be a pretty straight forward restoration, i wish we had something as good and complete as that to work with.

Wyoming to Rhode Island. Even if the car was free, it isn't worth the move, especially when the guy has two (or is it three?) carbodies to work on already.

That said, the car doesn't look in horrid condition, but the East wreaks havoc on equipment far different than the West. The furthest practical interest in the car might be as far as Ohio or Indiana, but I recall there was an NKP wood car that went begging (methinks it was scrapped) because nobody wants to work on wood cars. There is a handful (small handful) of groups that have been working with wood equipment-- but then it just has to fit their collections policy. I would suggest Strasburg, but I'll bet their backlot is full.

Would be an interesting project for somebody--up there with building a 100 ft schooner in your basement. I would hope this car doesn't go to scrap, however.

I have been following the fate of this car for years. It is a gem, but the price (I think) has been a sticking point. Now that it is down to $250.00, maybe a museum will come forward. Unfortunately, in that case it would likely have to leave New England, unless some king of Maine or prince of New England steps forward.

Right now, there is a plethora of wood passenger and head-end cars in New England that are available or need saving. This is one of at least 6 I am aware of.

Im glad RCD thinks $10,000 is practically free, perhaps he would like to donate his practically free $10,000 to us instead of making silly comments from his armchair !

If you read below the price, you would notice that it said that the car would be donated to any non-profit that wishes to preserve it. The non-profit would be responsible for shipping and a $250 transaction fee.

there you go then $10,000 shipping plus $250.

A good deal of railroad museums have flatbed trucks they could use, also what about Old Colony & Fall River Railroad Museum... This is the reason I have

So as to not exclude any historic equipment, if this organization grows into an entity that can handle it.

This is not a flatbed truck job, it would be an oversize load by anyones standards even without trucks, so permits and specialized trucking would be considerably expensive

Speaking from experience of trying to get a large car shipped from Cleveland to Connecticut as we speak. This job would probably exceed $13,000.00. We are using Silk Road to Move our CA&E car. We save some money because we were able to combine the jacking crew with other cars so they could do several in one day. In this case I suspect most groups would use the jacking crew at both ends on a single move. So, you are talking 3 rigs, one to move the body, one to move the trucks, and the one for the jacking crews equipment. The dollars add up even before you get on the road.
