I said it before and I'll say it again - it's OK to CONSTRUCTIVELY critique and speculate, that's what these forums are all about.

Honestly... if Ross painted his engine pink and replaced the whistle with an audio recording of the Road Runner saying "meep meep" someone would still say we have no right to make our opinions known. Would such a set up be better then no 614, yes. Would you honestly expect no one to say anything about it, no. Let's just keep it friendly and positive.

/Mitch

Great idea Mitch. I'll give Mary Kay Cosmetics a call to see if they'd be interested!!

Thanks, Ross Rowland

ROFL...

just remember to take the pull string off the new engine...

someone commented on another forum about 765, well if you want to borrow a tripper engine to fund raise with trips, its a good idea.

You are too late on the "beep" "Beep" idea as the New Mexico RailRunner bi-levels all ready use that sound to signal that the doors are closing.

Rumor that I heard was that they are eyeing the DL&W 952 for something completely different...........

At last someone is willing to do something, instead of just talk. Good luck with whatever you pull off.

Don,

My apologies. I did mean a Burlington O5 4-8-4. I'm not a Burlington expert so forgive me on my misidentified class name. I've always thought they were fairly attractive locomotives (other than the mars light above the headlight) and was born too late to see the 5632 in service before it was scrapped. I agree, I know a 2-8-2 would not be well suited for mainline steam excursions in today's mainline excursion environment.

While I'd like to see an 05 in steam again, I can understand some others arguments for a CB&Q Hudson given that there are several operable 4-8-4's and 2-8-4's in the country. I wouldn't mind another 4-8-2 since 1522 was retired in 2002. I'll be interested in hearing what locomotive is chosen and especially what the possible candidate that would "stun" people is.

Steven

If you ask me I wouldnt mind a 4-8-2 either. A 4-8-2 thats needs to be restored literally and run again should be the NYC Mohawk #3001. That should be restored by Steve Sandberg and the Freinds of 261. The Locomotive has so much History to it and is the most best looking NYC Steamer still existing. Infact where the Friends are the NYC used to run right by them. It would be a great locomotive with heavy duty power. Also there has been no NYC Steam since the late 1950s.

Noting that Mr. Sandberg reviewed this prior to post, makes it that much more interesting. FWIW, I hope he finds a renewable CB&Q heavy Hudson, but whatever he turns to, wherever he goes for motive power, our best wishes go with him.

As for 261, we should all hope that its owners can find a way to heat her boiler again. She deserves to stretch her legs, particularly after being restored to motion once again.

If you ask me he should restore the NYC Mohawk thats in Indiana. That would be a great locomotive to run and restore. The Engine has such great history and an Amazing Story of a Bunch of NYC Employees saving the 3001 from the Scrap heap. Also this locomotive did heavy passenger and freight trains. Also the NYC was close to the line of the Milwaukee Rail Road. If there is any Engine Steve would love the 3001 is a dream to run. Infact no NYC Steam has run since 1955 already 55 years now. So to see 3001 run again would be a Railfan's dream come true and would be perfect to run again.

Man, as a PRR fan I'd love that, too.

Ain't gonna happen. Think the opposite version of NRM Green Bay's management.

There's all kind of possibilities there! Mary Kay. Breast Cancer Awareness, Gay Pride, Lionel (the "Girls Train" in full size)

However, if that doesn't work, maybe you could paint it a bluish purple, with bright yellow and red trim... ;)

Oh, wait, you already did that one with a T1, never mind...

I still remember scrubbing the road grime off of 2100 one day using a bucket and brush and some fellow came by and said "Why are you painting it PURPLE?!?"

On a serious note, I think the Mohawk would be awesome!

Since we are all telling Steve what to do with his operation, I'm going to add my irrelevant opinion to the mix and suggest he build a new steam locomotive from the ground up, designed specifically for the service he wants to provide, and incorporating all the developments that have evolved in the past 50 years since we gave up on steam. Either than, or a GMAM........

Excellent idea! It's about time somebody built that Streamlined NYC Hudson replica folks always talk about...

+1!!! For that matter, why not both? A GMAM scaled up to standard gauge with Porta/Wardale improvements would be a hell of an engine!
