The all-electric route between Chicago and Boston had two gaps, one between Little Falls and Johnstown, and one between Hoosick Falls and the Hudson Valley Ry., both in New York. Also, going from Cleveland to Chicago would require a roundabout route via Lima OH, Fort Wayne and Peru IN. There was at least one excursion by some electric railway officials that covered much of this route, they would travel by day and stay at hotels along the way at night. As I recall it took the better part of a week to accomplish this excursion, an overnight trip on a steam railroad. Also, there were only a few years in which this feat would be feasible; some of the weaker interurban lines were starting to fail as early as 1920.

I think there was a book called the Longest Streetcar Charter about a group that chartered a car to go from Albany to St Louis.

Car 303 has been unloaded and placed on her trucks. She is now in the shop where she will be reassembled and inspected. It is hoped that she will run on our line in the next few weeks for test runs.We are expecting to announce a coming out party for all the equipment that we now have from the Trolleyville collection. We will have all the equipment out and running for the public to see and enjoy.

I am amazed how much of the equipment from there is going to be operational.
453 looks like its in really good shape just needing a good painting.

Mission Completed!!!

I wanted to let everyone know that it was reported to me yesterday that all the cars and equipment have been moved from Cleveland. It was quite an undertaking and a study in cooperation and cat herding amongst the groups involved. I think a round of applause should go to Bill Wall for all his efforts to make this a success.

As Chris said the long saga of the Lake Shore Electric Railway Museum finally has closure. On Friday 3-5-2010 the last car going to a museum left the Cleveland RTA. Shaker Heights boxmoter/linecar "OX" completed loading and departed for the Northern Ohio Railway Museum. On Saturday unloading was completed and the car was towed by Cleveland Railway Crane 0711 to the Anson W. Bennett Carhouse.

Also on Friday the RTA moved streetcar 1218 into the Brookpark shop for protection from the elements. The car had been outside since being moved from Dock 32 in early December.

Hear! Hear!

Tom Cruise--move over! Bill Wall is the real "mission impossible" guy. Bill needs all of our gratitude for what looked to be an almost impossible task back last summer.

I agree Bill Wall deserves a large round of applause for his efforts. Truly amazing.

One thing no one has mentioned is ALL of the management of Trolleyville and the Whatever they called themselves after that ( I won’t disgrace the fine interurban’s name they took) should follow their role model Art Modell’s example and leave town in shame!!!! Any one at all familiar with Cleveland will know what I mean. The parallel are very similar!
