On days when there are two passenger trains running, one locomotive will come into the roundhouse during village operating hours for servicing. If you come early, you can sometimes catch the second engine leaving in the morning.

These photos of the Edison pulling the freight special were taken during Trainfest 2009 weekend. Still, it's not everyday that we get see the Edison some pulling freight cars around the village.

As it comes to current repairs and current restoration on their locomotives...

GVRR (Edison) #1, 4-4-0 {Operational}
C&HM (Torch Lake) #3, 0-3-4T {Operational}
DTI (D&LN) #7, 4-4-0 {Restoring}
D&M (MA) #8, 0-6-0 {Restoring}

Here's some of my GVRR videos:

Hopefully, when spring comes, I would like to get some new pictures and videos of the GVRR in action, especially the "Torch Lake" which I don't have any videos of this locomotive yet.

I was fortunate to be able to visit Greenfield Village shortly after I posted my questions back in August. My day there was thoroughly enjoyable. I chased the train in the morning, spent the "high sun" hours browsing the Henry Ford Museum, and returned to chasing in the mid-afternoon. I just wish I could have stayed for another day or two. Both facilities are treasure chests to be sure.

While the clouds gave me some challenges during the prime hours from 3PM to 5PM, I did manage to get some sunlit shots of the "Torch Lake" in various places around the complex. The "Edison" was not running on this particular day, but fortunately, she was out in the yard where I could get a close look at her.

Here's the "Torch" passing the covered bridge as she heads for Susquehanna Station:

Pulling away from Susquehanna and past the windmill.....this is a neat spot:

Emerging from the woods on the "back forty":

The Edison parked outside the roundhouse for minor maintenance. I actually met and chatted with Chris S. and one of his colleagues at this venue:

Into the home stretch not far from the village entrance:

Passing the cider mill just about closing time:

All in all a very impressive operation. The facilities are first class, the hardware is unique and well cared-for and the staff was very friendly and knowledgable. I highly recommend that folks visit this place. I certainly plan to go back there!
