Baltimore Streetcar Museum primarly.

Currently restoration forman for Car 417 and 1050. I also maintain memberships at Rockhill Trolley Museum, Friends of the East Broad Top and the WW&F, and have volunteered at the last 2, but only slightly.
I also contribute and have a great deal of interest in the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Assoc.

After all, if it was built post 1900...what's the point?

I guess in my case it would be "were not involved with" I am currently on active duty in the Coast Guard. Right now I live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, ands My moving every few years (for the last 19 years) has made it difficult to be a "long term" volunteer, but I do it when & where I can. I grew up arounf the then Branford Trolley Museum (now Shore Line Trolley Museum) in East Haven, CT as my father was very onvolved there in the 1970's & early 80's as a memebr of Board of Trustee's as well as Superintendant of Equipment. Guess you could say I never had a chance NOT to be interested in streetcars. I am a member of Shore Line Trolley Museum, done a little bit of everything, shop, line, operations & track. Also a past volunteer & member at Seashore Trolley Museum in Maine while stationed up that way. Only one year to go until I am eligible for a military retirement, once I retire I will probably become more involved at the Shore Line Trolley Museum if job prospects pay off. For now I watch, learn & follow actual streetcar restorations & work on my O scale traction layout.

Enjoy,
Steve Loitsch

I'm interested in railroad preservation and modeling. I am a member at IRM and just joined The Milwaukee Electric Railway and Transit Historical Society after attending several of their slide presentations.

I have been a member of the Illinois Railway Museum for the past 11 years. I spend two days per week, working in the Freight Car Department restoring freight cars. In that time we have completely restored 2 cabooses, a wood autocarrier, 3 tank cars, an insullated boxcar and a stock car. We have also completed many running repairs to allow other freight cars to enter demonstration service. We have also assisted in the restoration, by doing the running repairs and airbrake work, on three other cabooses. We can now operate over three dozen freight cars, including nine cabooses, in demonstration trains. We have also completely restored five antique woodworking machines that improve our capabilites of making parts for various restorations of all types throughout the museum.

I have been involved in the tank car industry for 42 years, working for a tank car builder, managing a large private tank car fleet and as a consultant. I am currently a voting member of the AAR Tank Car Committtee.

That would be the Anthracite Railroads Historical Society - 25 years restoring EMD F units and 35 years editing a magazine.

I want to thank all of you who responded to my query. I have always wondered how many people that posted here are actually in railway preservation or those who just wanted to post a comment. There are a lot more here involved with preservation than I thought.

Thanks for all of your replies and helping to preserve the history of the railroad in the world. Remember, they don't make 'em like that any more!

Later!
Mr. Ed

Mr. Ed -

I think there are many more actually involved in restoration that post here, but did not respond to this thread. I know of a couple just at our museum that could have posted, but didn't. So the replies you have received are probably just the tip of the iceberg.
