After the unsuccessful ebay auction a while back, the Mt. Washington Cog Railway is again trying to sell their #3, supposedly in working order. http://railswap.org/cb/cl/classifieds.cgi?search_and_display_db_button=on&db_id=12505&query=retrieval

Just how many 4'-8" cog railways built to the Marsh system are still around? I woonder if they are still looking for $100,000?

We're any other cog railways even built to the Marsh system? I thought Mt. Washington was it.

The only other Marsh system ever built was the Green Mountain Railway that ascended what is now know as Cadillac Mountain in Maine. Their locomotives were based on the MWCR ones.

While there are likely few if any original parts, MWCR #3 was actually built for and worked on the GMRy and after the closing of that line was sold to the MWCR after an enginehouse fire destroyed a couple of their locomotives and they needed replacements quickly.

#3 would make an interesting display at the base of Cadillac Mountain and help to tell the story of an all but forgotten bit of history.

I could definitely see that locomotive being displayed at Cadillac Mountain. There are several spots on the mountain that would suite it well. The last time I was there it didnt seem like the incline railroad was well represented, though you can still pretty much follow the row.

Working Steam Cog Railway Locomotive. Engine #3 of the Mt Washington Fleet

Wow, with such a detailed and informative description, and no photo, I'm sure they'll get lots of interested buyers.

It would fit the gauge of the Manitou and Pikes Peak. Would the pinion engage the M&PP rack?

No. Their rack designs are entirely different. M&PP uses the Abt rack system:

While Mount Washington uses a ladder rack:

BIG NEWS! She's still listed on railswap. Ok, not much important news. Anyone even bother approaching the cog? Now, to the stupid thought, but why couldn't they sell Kangamangus? I'd by her in a heartbeat, given the money (what can I say? I fell in love with her when she ran the train my family took up the mountain about four years ago)
